La. trooper arrested for failing to book impaired drivers after two crashes in St. Tammany

Brett Dupre, 56, was booked with malfeasance in office and filing false public records in two separate crashes he investigated in St. Tammany Parish last April, according to a release from the Louisiana State Police.
"As a result of Dupre’s malfeasance, the crash reports contained false information, and two suspected impaired drivers were not taken into custody," the release said.
Dupre was assigned to State Police Troop L, based in Mandeville, and had been a trooper since 2008, the agency said.
He retired in last August while the agency's investigation was ongoing.
State Police began investigating Dupre after two separate complaints from citizens. They found Dupre intentionally failed to properly document and investigate the April 2023 crashes, which allowed two drivers who were suspected of being impaired to go free, State Police said.
The crash reports Dupre submitted also contained false information, State Police said.
Troop L supervisors reinvestigated the crashes, including amending the crash reports, and then "charged the impaired and at-fault drivers accordingly." The agency's news release did not include details of those crashes, other than to say they happened in St. Tammany.
Dupre was arrested into the St. Tammany jail after the agency consulted with the District Attorney’s Office. He had been placed on administrative leave during the investigation, and was still on leave when he retired.
The investigation is ongoing, State Police said.

Was there video of the incident? did they go to the hospital and draw blood?
If the state trooper on the scene didn't charge you, how can you get charged a year later.

I’m still a bit confused though. If they stepped in immediately (soon enough for her to still be impaired) then surely the trooper wouldn’t have been dumb enough to still omit those details from his report.. right?
I’m wondering if the hospital had already run a tox screen and LSP obtained it after the fact.

The answer is: he pissed off the folks who had their car run into by drunk drivers who weren’t charged. A whole lot more of this needs to happen.

In one of those he also falsified an innocent driver/victim as being impaired and at fault but evidence later proved his innocence. I wonder why that’s not mentioned?

The roadblocks that used to snag most of them just don't exist right now. Not close to the amount of police available. I haven't even heard of JP doing any of these lately.

From the original article...looks like he hooked up a Franklin PD officer. The scumbag trooper wrote it up as being the other driver's fault, and that driver's father had to play detective to prove his son innocent. I hope the trooper suffers significant pain and suffering. Same goes for the piece of crap Franklin officer.

I must give LSP credit in this case. Too often supervisors and leadership in the LSP have looked the other way or covered up malfeasance of their subordinates.
Troop L leadership has earned some respect for doing the right thing by reinvestigating these two crashes.
I’d love to know the details behind their decision to look into the crashes, and how willingly they were to reopen the crash reports, or if they were presented with too much evidence and public pressure that they couldn’t ignore it.
