I never claimed it was shocking to me. Good grief. I'm simply giving you the reasons why those who put on the play are doing it. Like how we got Hamilton. It was MEANT to be shocking. This is a self evident thing and too stupid even to discuss.
You have no idea why those putting on the play cast this woman. For one, her background is theater. You are offering your opinion on the why. You say they did it for shock value, yet you refuse to offer any sort of justification on why an interracial relationship is a self-evidently shocking thing. What's the shock? Be specific.
quote:
By elevating the perceived white dominance and replacing it with people of color. That's ESG folks talking, not me. Get it through your skull already.
Listen, it took me asking you three times before you said anything about the ESG question I asked. So there is no "get it through your skull," it was you avoiding a legitimate question. And this answer you've given is inadequate. What "perceived white dominance" are you talking about in a Romeo and Juliet production?
quote:
Try using the word 'respect' instead of conform. Jesus, how are you not getting any of this?
Lol, you and the word respect are not acquainted. Black actors have been in Shakespeare plays since the 1800s. Your position on this is weak, and not supported by the history of Shakespearean theater.

Did Shakespeare write or describe Juliet as a male? Of course not. Your arguments are laughable & absurd.
No, but there were no female actors, ding dong.
My argument was a question you still haven't answered. It is clear that you don't understand enough about this topic to realize you haven't actually responded to what I asked you.

Look, REGARDLESS of race, Juliet is supposed to be otherworldly attractive.
That's the entire basis of his beginning infatuation and obsession... Not that they're friends or she's cool to hangout with.
So if you think this actress pulls off this critical criteria for the play to work...downvote.

When Romeo first sees Juliet, he says to himself that this is the first time he's seen true beauty. From a distance, he asks a servant about her identity, but the servant admits he doesn't know. Struck by her beauty, Romeo declares that he never saw "true beauty" until this very night.

You stated that a white Romeo and a black Juliet is some sort of fantasy. I merely pointed out that this combination exists in real life.
Romeo and Juliet were Italians though.
So neither white nor black.

Anyone can see.

It was never legit. You can keep asking the same question but I don’t care.

This is ridiculous. It’s not about this one production. FFS…

Anyone can see that you're completely full of shite. I've asked you repeatedly why an interracial Romeo and Juliet is shocking. Why do you refuse to answer this question? It's a simple question, you claim it's self evident. Why is it shocking?

Ahh, finally you've said something truthful. You have no interest in defending or explaining your bullshite, we should all just accept it as fact.

We are discussing this one production in this thread. I want you to tell us, in a cogent and coherent fashion, why Romeo and Juliet as an interracial couple is shocking, and what sort of ESG bonus this pairing receives. You've made these claims, now use some arguments to support them.

No, you have not answered. It's a simple question. A response might start with something like "an interracial Romeo and Juliet is shocking because..." Feel free to fill in the rest of your answer. No more of that "it's self evident" bullshite either. Use your words.

Like i’ve said before in this thread, theatre productions of Shakespeare casting black actors is only shocking to retards who haven’t seen shakespeare outside the movie shown in their HS english class.

Already have used my words. Stop pretending this is just some one off scenario & we’ve not seen race & or gender swapping in tv/ cinema/ stage in the past decade. Be it fictional (Rings of Power) or non fiction.
Hamilton.
Anne Boleyn.
Cleopatra.
Ariel.
Isaac Newton.
Or where established characters have been shoved aside for new & amazing females or POC.
Terminator.
MCU.
Doctor Who.
Star Wars.
Star Trek.
The Equalizer (laughably so)
Etc…
Enough already. The fans are done with this crap.

I'm not pretending anything. All of the above is stuff I've not mentioned, it's all your bullshite, and not relevant to the simple question you refuse to answer. Why is Romeo and Juliet as an interracial couple a shocking thing to you?

Romeo and Juliet: Race War would make bank

I'm with you and the Spoon on this. You could make a really slick, ultraviolent, but also comedic, Romeo and Juliet movie based on shite like "don't bring that girl into my house" and "hell nah, you ain't dating my sister." Underworld has elements that work for a film of this premise. Gotta change your title, though. I would also change the ending. Have RJ blast the frick out of everyone and ride off into the sunset. Sequels would be the two houses working together to hunt them down like John Wick.

Or you get a musical about gangs in NY.

None of it is my bullshite, it is what is actually happening throughout the entertainment world and beyond. All of this stuff and more has been exhaustively mentioned on this very board .
quote:
Why is Romeo and Juliet as an interracial couple a shocking thing to you?
Even after I have explained this , you keep making the same mistake. That or you are intentionally lying. Pick one.
I never said it was shocking to me. I am stating a fact that the creators and those who are making these projects are doing this on purpose, for a reason.
Not only to create controversy which draws attention, but also to promote the DEI message.
