I haven't watched a whole lot of the Saints lately but it's evident Penning can't play LT, have we tried him at either guard spot???Guys got amazing physical size and ability, I'd hate to see us give up on a guy like that when he's so badly needed. So does the staff or anyone else have hope for him at a Guard spot? I just hope he hasn't been given up on yet

We all now that. I hope he can play LG for next 10 yrs. That would be a win.

Seems LG should be his spot. The staff should put him there all training camp and hopefully he succeeds so he’s not a wasted pick.

Exactly! Hes 6-5/325, very athletic for that size, very strong....put him there, dont move him at all, let him learn that spot. If he ends up a wasted pick it would be a HUGE loss for us. I thought he shouldve been put there right outta college, has he been tried there at all yet?

He’s a bust until he proves otherwise. Plain and simple.

If he can play well anywhere on the line, I’d take it. The Ram news means we have to go tackle with our first pick in the draft, probably have to resign peat, then maybe one of the middle round picks can get us another serviceable guard or tackle. We need youth stat

Man, I think we need to send him to get tutored by Willie Roaf. He's worked with others in the past.

As I’ve said before think 100% of Pennings problem (as well as the rest of the Oline) was coaching and scheme.
I wait to see what the new staff can do for Penning as well as all of the Oline. It’s already been reported that he is working on improving technique this offseason which is something that everyone knew he needed and apparently the last staff failed to address.
I have no idea what his ceiling is but I believe we have seen his floor and he will improve.
Though probably never enough to win back most fans.

100%??? Come on man. Thats completely taking the responsibility off Penning for his play. If thats the case why was Landon Young successful when he played? Did he succeed despite the horrible oline coaching staff?? Penning has some major issues and not everything is on coaching,

You can't be serious. Did you not watch him play lt? He couldn't do the basic functions of a lt.
His kick set was bad. His feet were bad. He would lunge. A coach could tell you exactly what to do but the player eventually has to execute.

Willie could help him with that!

Great! Genius! He's not a LT, PUT HIM AT GUARD

Yeah people assume that this is the automatic answer and he’ll adjust. Most of the time this never comes to fruition.

Fact.
Doug Marone failed at developing offensive linemen in New Orleans. That’s why he was fired. This has been confirmed through what most of you call the Saints media mouthpieces.
Young’s development is just as much in question as Penning’s as is Ruiz’s. Penning’s confidence was wrecked because of this.
Do you think just because players are drafted they don’t need coaching and developing? Especially one the line?
I’m not excusing Penning but when you have shite developers you really don’t know what you have in a payers that needs developing. I just hope Penning is not ruined by incompetence. It happens you know.
You guys should release your grip in hating these players and have an objective attitude.

Lol keep thinking Penning sucks because of Doug Marrone and coaching will just magically change slow reaction times, horrible footwork and just inability to pass protect.
Landon Young by the way was impressive when he played. But of course Marrone failed him too.

Because objective means it was these horrible coaches and players have nothing to do with their performance on the field? I think you need look in the mirror when you make these kind of statements.

If rammy is done, penning should be tried at RT

NFL DTs would get under Penning so fast at 6’7” it would be another disaster. There’s just no saving a bust, get over it we’ll likely take another OT in a few weeks.

so he can fail at BOTH sides the line? what would that solve?
