I love Dale Sr. But his death was entirely his own fault.
I see where you're going and you aren't wrong, but he went out a hero blocking for his son and best friend and it resulted in the latter getting his first win.

I figured Dale was going jump out and be pissed off walking across the track.
He'd of been pissed initially, but he would have flashed that trademark grin in victory lane as he watched his best friend celebrate his first win.

While I will watch most any type of motorsport NASCAR is my least favorite. That day I was flipping channels and just stopped on the race maybe 2 laps before the accident. My wife happened to be looking at the TV when the accident happened and remarked "Somebody just died". I spent the next 3-4 minutes explaining why they probably only had minimal injuries to only later have to admit my wife was prescient.

I was watching the race on tv. I was surprised that he died given that the damage to the car wasn't that bad. We've seen worse damage to cars and the driver walks away.

Was sitting in the infield by turn 1. 12 years old. Still remember nearly everyone around the rv’s quiet as a church mouse, waiting to hear something. then a lot of tears.

I remember watching the race and the FOX coverage ending without any official word on his condition. Then I remember standing in my living room and hearing the news on ESPN.
NASCAR has never totally recovered from his death. He left a void that just couldn’t be filled. He carried a lot of influence with NASCAR and I believe NASCAR would be in a better position today if he were still alive. That’s not the way it was meant to be, though.

Interesting coincidence is that he was on Dale Earnhardt, Jr.’s podcast today.

Was watching live with my young son. That was the day we both became Nascar fans. He adopted Gordon and I adopted Jr. Had 15 years of great times watching and attending. About mid-high school for my so.when Gordon, JJ, and Jr all retired we stopped. Still watch on occasion but only when flipping. Not appointment time anymore.

I was at a church youth retreat. Two of the leaders came up that evening and sang “knocking on heavens door” in Sr’s honor.
Grew up near Rockingham and going to the races pretty often. Rockingham was the next week and they were letting fans sign his merch trailer. Wonder what they ever did with that..

It was a sad day for me. I watched the race and his crash didnt seem that bad. I found out about it watching the NBA all star game and at halftime they said he was dead. I just sat there stunned.

I wasn’t a big NASCAR fan and am still not but I happened to be watching it, as a 7th grader, in our living room. It was definitely a wild finish and a hell of a race.
To this day, Schrader will still not say what he saw when he dropped Earnhardt’s curtain but based off of pictures that leaked from inside the car it was a bloody mess. Absolutely terrible. Looked like a crime scene.

I was watching in my apartment. First race I watched from start to finish. Wasn't till Daytona with the bad wreck a couple years ago, till I watched a complete race.
Don't remember the driver that was rushed to the hospital.
