Lack of parity in the Women's game

MTSU upsetting Louisville is the only game (so far) won by the lower seeded team.
There just isn't much parity in the women's game, which is why comparing men's and women's stats/records is dumb.

Women's athletics in sports that are also male usually suck major arse, women's skating and gymnastics are the elite athletes for women.

Media ruins everything. Instead of just congratulating Clark they had to push their new age narrative woke bullshite so now a lot of people, like me, could give a frick less how many points she has had.
Mentioning her next to Pistol is a disgrace and people should be ashamed.

Meh. MTSU beating us was not an upset.

Fairfield was 31-1 and a 22.5 point underdog that lost by 33

I mean it’s better than when UConn won every year.

There isn’t a lot of talent in the women’s game, and most of it is consolidated in elite programs.
The result is 100-33 box scores and all the favorites winning in single elimination tournaments

Right. Isn't that what I just said?

Women don’t catch enough hell for being bad at sports.

I wouldn’t even say elite programs as much as elite coaches. Look what happened to LSU and how quickly they turned it around when they got Mulkey. I have no doubt that if Staley left for another school tomorrow they would also become a power and we’d fall back to mediocrity.
Miss St had a great program for years and it ended almost as soon as the coach left.

Yeah I hate the lack of parity. The talent distribution is terrible in women’s bball.

Yep was just joking about that and was boasting to my dad about how Im one game from 4 perfect brackets on women’s side right now.
All I did was pick higher seed in every game first 2 rounds and I’m 27-1 so far and only loss was an 18 pt comeback by an 11 over 6.

Maybe you are a Basketball Genius, have you considered that might be the explanation?

Its been like this forever, look at Tennessee and UConn...
Look at most women's sports, Softball, Volleyball, etc...
Softball National Titles:
UCLA: 1982, 1984, 1985, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1992, 1999, 2003, 2004, 2010, 2019
Arizona: 1991, 1993, 1994, 1996, 1997, 2001, 2006, 2007
Oklahoma: 2000, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2021, 2022, 2023
Volleyball, Champions by State:
California 21
Pennsylvania 7
Nebraska 5

Pretty sure that is what is mean by "lack of parity".

I was talking to a coworker about this, she used to play basketball.
What she expressed, and I would have to agree is that largely women do not grow up playing basketball. Not like we do at least. Little boys have a tiny fisher price goal by age 5. Most of all males have played organized basketball at some point, even if it was at age 7. On the other hand, majority of women have not.
When it comes time for highschool basketball tryouts. The men's team can easily have 100 boys come out. Majority will at the least know how to dribble without traveling, and can do a simple layup. For women, however, they maybe get about 20 girls show up for tryouts, and some of they may have never touched a basketball before. It's entirely possible for a teenage girl to pick up a basketball for her first time at about age 16, dedicate herself to the game, and find her way playing in college if she truly wanted it. It would be damn near impossible for a boy to first pick up a basketball at 16 and end up playing in college. He would have to be both extremely tall and extremely athletic.
So yea, the pool of talent playing women's basketball is so small simply because the pool of women who plays basketball is much much much smaller.

It would be pretty fricking rare for both but both would likely be related to extreme outlier height.

That’s happened countless times. Joel Embiid started playing basketball at 15 and was the NBA MVP.

Yea. Really glad I don’t watch

quote:I don’t buy this. The reason women are bad at basketball is because they aren’t athletic. It requires running, jumping, shooting, and physical contact - things women generally aren’t built for. That’s really about it and has nothing to do with starting the game at age 8 as opposed to age 12.

Watching women play basketball is like watching men play it underwater.
