Recommendations for a lake house rental

Looking for a house on a lake within 6-8 hours of New Orleans. My parents want a place where they can sit on dock or porch to watch grandkids swim. A nearby marina to rent a pontoon boat or jet skis would be nice but not a necessity. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I can't speak for lakes in Louisiana or to the east, but there is Lake Conroe (north of Houston), Lake McQueeney (west of Houston), and some lakes in Austin that might have what you're looking for.

We rented a house just below Canyon Lake on the guadalupe river last year that was great for all of this. swam in the river and did some fishing, then took the boat out on the lake.

The Arkansas lake areas are about 2 years from jumping the shark
Heber Springs is our spot but anywhere around there is wonderful for kids and grandparents. I will admit it’s closer to 9 hours than 6

Chestnut bay, Alabama
Pools and slides for the kids
I have stayed a few times. We really preferred house #5
Nice house - great view, dock etc.

In Texas- Lake Palestine, Lake Cypress Springs, Lake Bob Sandlin, Lake Sam Rayburn, Toledo Bend, and Cedar Creek Lake are the lakes I’d look into.
Lake Conroe is nice, but can get very busy.

Lake Hamilton in Hot Springs, AR. You can get a house ON the lake, unlike some other lakes, and there are at least two boat rental places (Kahoona Bay and Hot Springs Marina). There are also plenty of restaurants and a bit of things to do at night that you would not be able to do in a more remote area.

The Arkansas lakes already mentioned fit what you are looking for. I would add Lake Catherine too which is near Lake Hamilton and Lake Ouachita. My favorites would be Greer’s Ferry at Heber Springs and Lake Ouachita. You can’t go wrong with any of them though.

Lake Bruin has this, about 4 hrs away from Nola. There are several places to rent near Netterville Landing, which I know has a couple of pontoons to rent. Maybe a jet ski, not quite sure on that. Not as nice as the other lakes listed, but has basics that you listed.

Go to North Georgia and stay on Lake Nottelly or Lake Blue Ridge. It's 8 hours away, but will be nicer than Ar-Kansas or anything in LA or Alabama.
And there will be plenty of cabins with docks to chose from, and a deep safe lake to swim in.
