I tend to agree that eating 4000 calories of “healthy food” in a day would be extremely hard to do by accident, meaning I tend to agree with his claims.
If we imagine someone who doesn’t work out but daily eats 4000 calories, I think it’s safe to say those aren’t healthy calories, meaning I think it’s a lot of carbs and fat with relatively little protein.
Since protein is more satiating than other macros, we can at least say that the person would feel more full all day, even at a lower caloric intake, when they eat healthy. So it makes sense to me that, everything else equal, if a person switched from a crap diet to a healthy diet, they would tend to lose weight without counting calories.

Do not use any calculator to tell you your TDEE. Use it one time at the very beginning is about the most use you can get out of that sort of tool to just give you some number to start at that isn’t completely off base.
The scale and you tracking your calories over time will tell you your TDEE. It will change over time

I don't know a single person who is obese or even overweight who has consistently been on any diet be it Animal Based 30, Carnivore, Ketogenic, Ketovore, etc. where they are eating real whole foods and avoiding fake processed garbage. You can argue whether that is sustainable or not but people seem to be able to do it. It's really really hard to become a fat slob on an elimination diet even eating like a pig. Its very difficult. Compare 700 'calories' of McDonalds to 700 'calories' of real whole foods. The real foods are a much bigger portion of food and this doesn't even take into account what happens in your body after you eat these things. Acting like 700 'calories' of new york strip steak is the same as 700 'calories' of a DiGiorno frozen pizza is fricking stupid for several reasons. Or acting like 500 calories of lucky charms is the same as 500 calories of 85/15 grass fed beef. Its lunacy but this is what you morons are promoting.

It is science. Let me give you a homework project - stop at the McDonald's drive thru on the way home and get 1,200 'calories' of any combination of menu items they have. Take your pick. Then, go to the grocery store and buy 1,200 calories of non processed real whole foods. Put them both on the table and tell me which one is the larger portion and then tell me about the quality of those 'calories' independent of the quantity of the 'calories'. Maybe that will help you understand?

Sure but the total impact and result(s) of eating those foods will be different because despite all the kicking and screaming on here all calories are not created equal nor are the quality of those calories created equal. For example someone eating 2,000 calories a day of pop tarts, tv dinners, and oven pizza isn’t going to have the same outcomes of someone eating 2,000 calories of eggs, grass fed beef, and steak.

But someone can easily overeat on eggs and steak.
Personal anecdote...I'm trying to keep my calories in the 1700 range to stay in a consistent deficit. I would have no problem eating 2500 calories of eggs and steak. It wouldn't make me feel uncomfortable or stuffed. It would be easier to do that than to remain in a deficit.
Yes the satiety from those items is superior than refined carbs and other garbage like pop tarts. But it's still very easy to consistently hit a caloric surplus eating "healthy foods" and if you disagree you're simply not being a realistic person.

The outcomes of someone who is exercising multiple times a week be it simply walking or going to a gym and resistance training and eating a surplus of eggs and steak vs someone eating a surplus of pop tarts and tv dinners are going to be far far different. None of that has anything to do with the fact that you can easily eat in a caloric surplus with eggs and steak
