They claim to be “chained” to a job but want to have all kinds of luxuries that cost a lot of money.
If you live frugally, you may not be able to get your soy milk latte and avocado toast every morning but you have the freedom to switch jobs and be able to weather being unemployed for a while in the worst case scenario.

Americans are so spoiled its embarrassing.
And youre right, they just want to maximize their consumerism while doing as little as possible to facilitate that.
That's not a systematic problem, thats a pure lack of individual discipline and strength.

Hey… you can work DoorDash, Uber, and Lyft as few hours as you want. Why are you complaining?
What about my statement read as a complaint to you? I'm not complaining about strangers working 80 hours a week. You do you.

How about striving to be something more than a slob with 40 piercings and colored hair that screams about pronouns and opposite gender bathroom usage wanting a day off every week?
Noted.
You were really triggered by my observation that lots of Americans make their personalities "I happily work 60 hours a week."

Bingo. You can bet on the street and live in a tent, or you can import cheap Chinese cups and sell them to white women, create a fad, work part time, full time, get more education and skill.... The opportunities are endless.
We were supposed to be a nation of entrepreneurs, individuals, and problem solvers. Instead we become serfs.

What about my statement read as disdain? I pity people who make their life purpose accumulating junk and meaningless status.
If you want to work 500 hours a week, you have my blessing. I never complained about anyone bragging about working unpaid overtime, I just think it's silly.
It is one of the most unsurprising things imaginable that someone like you would view people who understands there is more to life than working with disdain. What a gross, vapid person you must be.

Changes in tech are the only permanent increases in productivity.

If this passes, companies will all embrace the Amazon model of timing employee bathroom breaks and no phones allowed to be sure they are getting 100% of those 32 hours.
Be careful what you wish for.

I don't prescribe to the notion that working fewer hours in any way equates to being less productive or lazy.
EX: Surgeons schedule cases in bunches for any given day to be off as long as they like or space them out for the same reason.
I see it as an incentive to be more productive during the time you're at work. There are a lot of folks I see every day that dawdle around not doing shite being social or taking a hundred smoke breaks.

quote:Multinational companies that do business in European countries and US report higher productivity, profit, and worker retention in the European countries. Then look at standard of living numbers, health and wellness you see those countries are well ahead in those measures as well.
The former are constantly working while on the clock. The latter may not be constantly working but are the kind of people who troubleshoot issues as they appear.
And those issues can be resolved quickly or take quite a while to do, but paying an hourly salary beats the frick out of paying a contract where someone comes in and makes certain minimums the second they get a call.

Hilarious. It’s never to apply oneself and succeed.. it’s always “your just making other people money.” Hey… you can work DoorDash, Uber, and Lyft as few hours as you want. Why are you complaining? The rest of us are actually building businesses and taking risks you peons who wanna take a weekly “mental health day” get in the way of. How about striving to be something more than a slob with 40 piercings and colored hair that screams about pronouns and opposite gender bathroom usage wanting a day off every week? “Huh!! Huh!! Huuuh!! Europe only wurks 32 hours!1!1!2!2”. Yea. And who is the dominant world power? Are the European countries sending carrier groups from seven fleets around the world? Who had to combine into one European entity of many countries to compete with the US Dollar? Who is buying whos tech? Who is buying whos military equipment? Who had had to dig who out of world war? But keep listening to Berne Sanders.. who is a “socialist” that’s never worked a real job yet has millions in wealth and multiple homes. He is REALLY for you, little man.
Not gonna lie, you had me in the first half, was ready to downvote. You pulled it all together in the end, and got the upvote.

Eventually, we will all be gig workers if this trend continues.

Mandate a 32 hour work week instead of a 40 hour work week with no reduction in pay.
How about we just do away with overtime laws and the whole concept of full time work? Let the employment agreement dictate the number of hours that are expected.
This proposal undermines hundreds of millions of contracts that have already been executed. It undermines business decisions, such as long term leases.
Sometimes the answer to make things better is to get rid of rules rather than adding them
