How many Reddit users don't understand basic economics?

Bernie hasn't worked 30 hours in a week his entire life.

So you’re good with no standardization? No OT pay either?

Yeah, but your work is only worth a nickel.

Would love to see a comparison of increased overtime expenditures vs. hiring & training more workers who need benefits and desks and all that jazz.
It seems like the main reason anyone ever cares about this stuff is because health insurance is tied to full-time employment. That's a meaty tangent and it's tough to find a feasible change- Universal Healthcare is bonkers expensive, and privatized Healthcare is comically inefficient. Healthcare itself is not a good that plays by standard economics principles.
Other than that, just get a part time job and work your 32 hours, dammit.

I really don't understand the backlash to this. Humans have worked on reducing the amount of labor needed for survival since early agricultural times. In modern post industrial times we have filled that gap with needless bureaucratic and administrative tasks.
Now that we're almost to that point with automation, why not enjoy the fruits of that labor?
If most of us in the professional world are being honest with ourselves, our jobs don't require near a full 40 hour work week.
The problem is the service industry and what to do with those people until automation takes over, and also how to fill increasing 'free' time with something productive and fulfilling. Unfortunately most people would just sit on the couch staring at their phone an additional 8 hours a day, which is sad.

This is what you get when people that have never done anything are elected to lead this country...

I'm good with no government standardization. Standards should be contractually agreed to between employee and employer. Apparently there are a lot of employees that want to only work 32 hours a week with benefits and if they want to work more than 32 hours they get time and a half. Allow them to pursue their goals. I'm sure there are some employers that can and will meet their needs.
In short, let the free market work. We all have different desires in terms of work hours. Allow the employee and employer to work it out as they see fit for both parties.

Instead of 32 for the standard, leave at 40 but everyone works 4 - 10's.

Slavery was on the way out regardless of the result of Civil War. Innovation and Technology advancements was rendering slaves irrelevant every passing year. Not sure how you can compare 1880's with 2024 but lots of folks will be out of jobs in the next 10 to 15 years. It's coming.

Yep.
But the government will churn through ungodly amounts of money to keep the lazy alive, which creates a loop..in the meantime.

If my org invested in it now, probably 80% of what I do could be eliminated

So the government would mandate every single employer loose %20 productivity for full time employees while maintaining the same cost burden? Expect a huge increase in inflation, a lot of layoffs and contracts restructured for salary and not hourly.
Fcking retards.
