Holman has elite control

Holman is a strike throwing machine. He’s not nearly as hard throwing as Skenes, but his command of the strike zone is as elite a skill as is Skenes fastball. Thats not to say Skenes lacked control, but rather to say that control is just as much a skill as is arm velocity. Holman seems to be able to not just throw strikes, but also to pick the part of the zone he wants.

Way to jinx him into a walk

Great job with the jinx.

And like clockwork. Nice job.

Think it but don’t jinx it. This inning is rough. I’ll blame that on you.

I was thinking I jinxed him as well, lol. But be bailed out me and my post by striking out the last three batters with a collection of precision pitches.

You mean like the one at the ankles that the ump rang up?
Just stop.

I thought he got the benefit of the doubt on one pitch in that inning that looked probably low to me.
But “just stop” what? You don’t think over the games this year that Holman has had elite control? And you are basing that he doesn’t on one close strike call that went his way? You know, he had a couple close strikes called balls.
The point still stands. Holman’s velocity is maybe high average. What separates him is command of the zone.
Whats his ERA? How you think it got there? LSU has a half dozen or more pitchers alone that throw harder than Holman. Its his control makes him elite.

It's better this season but his command is still awful.

Looked pretty good to me!

Tricky topic (the comparison) but you phrased it well. Dude’s smooth.

I bet you’re the type of bitch to bring up a perfect game midway midway through the 5th aren’t you?
Shut the frick up. After tonight, I guarantee nobody is going to pay attention to you.

Holman reminds me of Aaron Nola.

Holman has obviously impressed me every time out. Last night it was his velocity. He came out hitting 94 and sat around 93/94 for most of his outing until he had a couple of (very relatively) "long" innings. But Ronnie made a good point that I think is hard to see on tv--his fastball has some late run on it. And I think he can run it glove side or arm side, which is incredible combine with his pinpoint control.
He can hit his spots horizontally and vertically, which makes his fastball play better, which makes his off speed play better. Which he can throw in any count. He can throw it 0-0 to get ahead in the count, 2-0 when they're sitting fastball, or drop it off the table with 2 strikes for a strike out pitch. He's like a damn college Maddux with a much smaller strike zone. Knows how to "pitch" as well as anyone since Nola, probably. Absolute fricking stud. So much fun watching him.
