I’m convinced we could have a DB room consisting of 80% walk ons and we’d still have threads like this

He has a built in excuse.

Oneofus Raymond is not that great of a DB coach.

For multiple years he had Bill Busch and Dave Aranda holding his hand.

After the 2019 NC, both Aranda and Busch left LSU.

The DB's in 2020 (DC Bo Pelini) and 2021 (DC Daronte Jones) were a total disaster with Oneofus as the DB coach.

The DB's at Florida in 2022/23 were also a disaster and Oneofus got the boot by Sun Belt Billy Boy.

Hopefully he'll perform his coaching duties better with hand holding provided by Baker and Jensen; that group should at least be a major improvement over Pennywise the House clown, Steeples and Cooks..........

This thread fricking sucks, but I do agree that we have more talent in the DB room than we probably think. Assuming everyone is healthy (big assumption). But there's enough numbers, talent, and experience back there that we should be able to find a nice combination of 5 in whatever positions to field. And they should be a lot better this year than last.

BUT, so much more goes into passing yards given up than simply how good the DB coach is. A ton depends on the DL and how much pressure they can get on the QB. And obviously the DC's scheme, weekly game plans, and how he calls plays in-game. Raymond could have the DBs coached up better than any group in the country, but if every QB is just standing back there patting the ball for 5 or 6 seconds every play, dudes will eventually get open, on even the best secondaries.

It's not elite, but should be enough to be average with good scheme and coaching.

LBs should be elite.

DLine, well who the hell knows.

Just give me a top 50 defense and a top 15ish offense. That should make the playoffs
