Surface drive motors on Ar WMA's

Was at ProDrive dropping off a boat and the guy helping us said Ar is most probably banning surface drives for all WMA's. It's not a done deal but i can see it happening due to the noise. PD's new motor made with the Tohatsu block is very quiet. Kemo Jr was walking with a limp admiring them.

Wish they banned them in LA.
I used to have a surface drive for some time and didn't take long to realize I can do most of what I do with a regular outboard on a jack plate.

My apologies. I’ve been driving this desk for too long.

If you can do what you want with an outboard and jack plate, then you did not need a surface drive in the first place.

I have a Gatortail and I'm going back to a traditional style mudboat. More power when you need it and don't have to worry about lillies bogging me down.
OH and i don't have to spin a lower unit or have some half power shite reverse.
Only a matter of time before the flatbill wearing Carolina squatted truck driven young kids ruined it for everyone.

I can walk just fine fully erect. Is that abnormal?

I like the trench cutters too, but they are slow. PD has new one out that has auto half arse reverse like you have on your GT. Plus you can still spin it around and have the full power if you’re stuck in lilies.

Once it happens it will spread to other states. Too much tearing up the marsh. Too much loud arse exhaust too. I run one here in Georgia but mostly bc of stumps and rocks. Also easier for me to wrench on a lawnmower motor than an outboard. I used to have them modded with the cam carb and head work and loud exhaust but I have a stock one now. I ripped a mercury tiller motor off the mounts on a log floating in the river. Switched to mud motors and never looked back.
Also trying to sell a BPS Q flex with the baffle for a horizontal Briggs big block if anyone is interested.

It's a $3,000.00 option, spins lightning fast. Found out that there will be no more "commercial" boats 18' and under sold to anyone unless they have a commercial license. 20' and over can still be sold without floatation.
They are delivering 3 of the new Tohatsu 50hp motors next week. La Department of WL&F is getting one the other two are going to rec guys. Would not say what the price tag is but i would estimate close to $20k.

Gatortail is coming out with an actual YZ clutch option claims u have more forward and reverse. But for the price they gonna want I can damn near buy a nice v6 mudboat for that price and still pass up all the flat bills with there voodoo exhaust……

I don't think it is. What becomes abnormal with me is my decision making. Or lack of.

Is that the keel cooled motor? We were talking about the tohatsu in the duck blind and the old engineer in the group mentioned that’s old technology and technically “ air cooled”. FWIW ( note: we all run PD’s & Zukes)

1,000% agree.
Regarding Arkansas--the non stop running of gator tails with voodoos (etc) has completely changed how we hunt the White and other NWRs in the state. Birds act completely different now than they did years ago.

Only thing I ask is to not ride the bank. It's spawn season for bass and sacalait and everybody is out fishing the banks. And here comes loud as Larry from 4 miles away rolling 2 ft from the bank.

not just the noise but the joy riders riding around all dang day "scouting" when in fact they are also trying to "rally"

Its coming to a state near you....way too much destruction of habitat by idiots "scouting". Very useful tool when necessary but just joy riding under the guise of scouting or some other sham excuse is very detrimental to habitat and, during season, loafing and resting birds.

Yes, gallon of coolant.
The only hitch with the true mudboats has always been stumps and that .25 mpg on the big block 454's.
