Need one but don’t want to break the bank

I’m happy with my Cannon wide body 64 gun case from Tractor Supply. I added a Golden Rod in it and it’s a nice setup for the lower cost gun safes. They have really good sales a couple of times a year.

I'm here for the comments. Academy has some small long gun safes 18-26 guns for decent prices but they're all out of stock. I don't need anything fancy or huge. I know the cheap gun "cabinets" would be better than nothing but a crack head could basically get into them with a Bic pen
Here's a couple links. They're cheap and probably shitty brands but I really don't GAF and wish they were in stock

Get the biggest one you can fir and afford. They don't hold as many guns as advertised unless each gun is the perfect size, and your collection will likely grow rather than shrink. There may also be other items (jewelry, cash, financial docs) that you'd like to keep in it.

While the quick access of an electronic lock is appealing I prefer a good S&G dial lock as it has no electronics to fail. In a perfect world, I'd like to have both but those are uncommon.
When looking at fire ratings remember that those are for a certain temperature limit and duration, it's not absolute. Consider where you plan to put your safe from a fire point of view. For example if it's going to be in the basement and your home is fully engulfed in a fire, the contents of the safe probably won't survive. Consider putting it next to an outside wall which, in a fire, would collapse and expose the safe to outside relatively lower temps. Finally on fire rating, consider how close you are to the nearest fire station.
Make sure you use some good lag bolts to secure the safe to the floor, otherwise it's easy for a thief to tip it over and take a grinder to the thinner back/side panels or just cart if off completely for those I've seen put their safe in the garage. If you have the space, and you're putting it next to an outside wall, put another partial wall on the other side of the safe so it's only exposed on the front and maybe top. Making a little cubby area for the safe.
Lastly, the line about "buying bigger than you need" gets a lot of play but I'm much more of an advocate for instead of getting one really big safe, get 2 or 3 (or more) mid-sized safes and put them in different locations to distribute your risk. Because if someone DID get into your one big safe they've got everything.

The winchesters sold at tractor supply are hard to beat for a decent safe for the average gun owner. I recommend them to everyone. I usually recommend the 26 gun, but they have a 36 gun 25% off which is cheaper than the smaller safe.
Winchester 36 gun 45 min fire rating $600
If you’ve got an extensive and/or valuable collection, you should be looking to “break the bank” though, IMO. The best way to do that though is buy a smaller, premium safe, and you can get another one later.

All very good info, but the funny thing is, I’ve had more trouble with my S&G dial than with electronics. It’s good now but I guess it got bumped on one of the moves and it would occasionally be a bitch to open. There was a minute there where I wasn’t sure I was going to get it open again. That’s not typical though. My Winchester electronic lock did shite the bed, but they sent me a new one and it was easy to replace.
Bottom line is I wouldn’t worry too much about a safe with a quality E-lock.

One of my safes has that fancy shite. Wifi or Bluetooth with some app to your phone. It was too complicated for me. So I just use the keys.
My shite only gets locked up if I'm away for the weekend or whatever. I keep my firearms positioned in every room of my house and readily available to shoot a coyote, squirrel or whatever else finds itself in my optics. We just had new windows installed and I'm not getting screens put in. I want to be able to shoot effectively from any window and angle.
I live out in the sticks and I don't have kids, so I don't have any firearms that don't get handled and used on a semi-regular basis. Front room has plate carrier, molle drop leg rig with my 10mm Glock in it and a rifle. Bedroom has a 18" shotgun, 2 handguns and a rifle. Living room has a 12 gauge and 2 rifles. Kitchen has one handgun. Spare bedrooms have rifles. Haha. frick em.

I just converted a closet to gun safe by installing this.
Amazon
I have my ammo in ammo cases with large silica packs.
I have wall mounts for my rifles.
Amazon
Considering the lock, it also serves as a safe room for my wife. Yeah, they could shoot through the door, but she's going to be in there with plenty of firepower.

That's safe for a child, a honest thief, and your drunk arse when you can't remember the combination

Is that necessary?
Curious as what are some really needed safe accessories and what are some things that are "nice to have".

Depending on if you keep your safe in a wet basement or in a climate controlled room. I have tens of thousands of dollars worth of guns in my safe. I keep my safe in a climate controlled room. I still have a Golden Rod for added protection.

Which maybe will hold 6 rifles. The other 12-20 guns must fit in the small pockets located on the interior of the door.

I just bought a 64 gun safe and it’s cramped with 5 riffles and can maybe house 6 longer shotguns. Get the biggest you can.

I have a Winchester from Tractor Supply. It does the job and doesn't cost a fortune. Still heavy as hell, though.
