The British and the French already have special forces there, perhaps they plan on using them directly against Russian soldiers. A number of the western weapon systems are partially manned by NATO forces.

Most likely to relieve Ukraine troops from non combat zones and to launch long range weapons because NATO doesn’t trust Ukraine not to bomb the Kremlin

Had the Germans not been fighting a war on two fronts, down jackets, and some beef jerky the Russians would be speaking German.

I hope they bring plenty of cheese, fois gras, and pate because they're going to die in Ukraine.

There's no way France is moving this direction without the US giving them the nod. Probably the Hawks in DC's idea.... Hoping to get in on it down the road.

It’s like have the drunk buddy at the bar always staring fights and wants his buddies jumping in to save him. You start it you finish it.

You should read up on the siege of Stalingrad. The Russians ate rats and each other. They suffered over 2 million casualties and were able to push the Germans back after the 8 month battle.

Hitler wanted to capture the oil fields in the Caucasus at any cost. He basically destroyed the Luftwaffe transport fleet by trying to drop supplies into the German 6th army. The Soviets shot down over 700 transport planes.

The USSR probably would have lost without help from the west.

America sent its Russian ally the following military equipment:
400,000 jeeps and trucks
14,000 airplanes
8,000 tractors
13,000 tanks
Etc.

U.S. transported an entire Ford Company tire factory, which made tires for military vehicles, to the Soviet Union.

At a dinner toast with Allied leaders during the Tehran Conference in December 1943, Stalin added: “The United States … is a country of machines. Without the use of those machines through Lend-Lease, we would lose this war.”

Nikita Khrushchev, who led the Soviet Union from 1953 to 1964, agreed with Stalin’s assessment. In his memoirs, Khrushchev described how Stalin stressed the value of Lend-Lease aid: “He stated bluntly that if the United States had not helped us, we would not have won the war.”

The French are mad because they have been bullying Africa into giving away their natural resources to them and Russia has helped these poor countries remove this French pariah

Dudes, you realize the green berets he is seen with in the picture are French Foreign Legion, right? They're almost never French citizens.

If France goes there and either attacks, or gets attacked by Russia, then they’re on their fricking own.

Let them deal with the ramifications of their stupidity without US involvement.

That’s interesting. Never heard that before. Did it survive or get bombed?

The winter defeated the Germans just like it defeated Napoleon. Winter and distance plays hell with logistics.

The French aren’t going into Ukraine. It is all talk.

Serious question: is there wording in the treaty to that effect?

Meaning, if the USSR/Russia attacks you without provocation, we all jump in together for defense; but if you actively go out of your way to engage them, you're on your own?

IMO, France would essentially forfeit "Article 5" protection if they send troops into a country that's actively at war.

Let's be realistic: France is talking about sending troops to western Ukraine, away from front-line activity. It's likely in response to the Transnistria stuff.

And no, if French troops are in Ukraine and they get hit ... it shouldn't be a NATO response, IMO.
