If I want something to track steps and heart rate, what should I be looking at? Also interested in whether the wearables that track sleep, etc are accurate and provide useful data.

I just got the Garmin Forerunner 225S Music and wear it for sleep tracking now. I enjoy it.

are you an Apple or an Android guy ? the correct answer will depend on that...

Apple Watch does all of that and more.

Apple Watch is a better smart watch but there are better fitness trackers out there.
I got the Fitbit Charge 5 a few years ago and it’s worked like a charm.

I've used a Whoop for several years now and love it. I use the bicep band on a daily basis to keep from having to wear it around my wrist.
Highly, highly recommend.

I used an Apple Watch for years, but recently ditched it for a Polar Ignite. I didn't use any of the smart watch features, and figure the Polar is a better fitness tracker.

I use a Garmin Fenix watch, the 6's are reasonable since they introduced the 7's. It tracks Rem/light sleep/deep sleep and restlessness. It also tracks heart rate and heart rate variability. I think it can track pulse O2 but I don't use that function. I also use it to track bike rides, hikes and runs. It has good maps so I use it as my back up navigation while hiking.

I would be lost without my Garmin Fenix

If you do hiking or triathlons then Garmin. Otherwise Apple Watch is the best. Best sleep tracking and HR and VO2 max are more accurate then most others

I have a Garmin Venu SQ I bought at Sam's on sale. I really like it but it's the first fitness watch I have ever owned so I am probably not an authority on the subject.
