First time doing AI. Want to do it right. Budget under 5k before travel. Adults only.

We really liked Secrets Cap Cana.

There’s a lot of real estate between Cabo and Punta Cana.

You could get hundreds of suggestions and nobody would be wrong.
What are you looking for?
What are you looking to do?
What are your priorities?

No particular order: Good food. Swim up room. Nice beach.
Doesn’t need to be a party 24/7 but some entertainment and nightlife.
Currently looking at secrets Maroma beach.

What Caribbean destination is easiest from Nola airport?

Secrets maroma beach is good. Swim up rooms are overrated though

I don’t doubt it. This however was the wife’s only request.

For your budget look at any of the Excellence properties.

similar to the OP, my wife is wanting to do a carribean AI this spring. Not so much looking for suggestions, but insight into the whole AI concept because I've never done it either. I'm sure it varies by property but what's the catch on AI, cost vs convenience? What's commonly NOT included that's still on the property?

The only thing usually not included is they have private day beds for rent and the non house wine you have to pay for.

I've done Excellence a few times. I guess the only thing that is NOT included would be big excursions away from the property. I will say outside of that, I have not wanted anything that the property did not have available to me. I guess the catch is, you pay for everything upfront outside of some tip money. That's one of the reasons why I like it. My all in cost for the trip is practically paid for months in advance and I don't need to budget for extra food or drinks etc.

We just got back from Majestic Elegance in Punta Cana. We really enjoyed it as there is lots of nightlife there compared to other resorts. It is really a big place. We had elegance club swim out room and for 7 nights for the wife and myself with flights included it was $3500.

I think there are direct flights from nola to cancun. Tons of great AI's along riviera maya.

Any excellence resort is under that price and you can’t beat them . Secrets resorts also have a bunch . That west side of Mexico is very different than anything east of them

This is the current leader.
Other option we are considering is Secrets Akumal.
Anyone been to both?
There’s a ridiculous amount of conflicting info/reviews for every resort in existence. They’re all completely amazing and completely suck at the same time. Hard to decipher the truth in the middle. I had no idea how deep the research rabbit hole on AI’s could go.

I've been to both and both are top notch. Secrets akumal is at the turtle bay where you can snorkel with sea turtles. This gives you something to do everyday.
