6’4” 365
Outland Trophy Winner
Would fill a huge need on the interior of the DL
Currently 33 on Dane Brugler’s Big Board but likely to be a riser after the Senior Bowo and combine
Tweet thread from Jim Nagy of the Senior Bowl

At his size, conditioning is a big question mark. But if he can get that figured out and develop some pass rush skills, he'd be a great complement to Bresee

I know we would all be thrilled to have another conditioning question mark for Louisiana sports

He’s a big ol’ boy for sure. I’d love to have him, but I don’t think we have that luxury this year. I think we have to go OT and Edge with those first two picks.
Also, while maybe not as good as Sweat, there is some DT depth this year. Especially run stuffers.
Ruke Orhorhoro: Clemson 6-4, 290 lbs.
McKinley Jackson: aTm 6-1, 331 lbs.
Michael Hall: tOSU 6-1, 280 lbs.
Tyler Davis: Clemson 6-1, 300 lbs.
Gabe Hall: Baylor 6-5, 290 lbs.
Fabien Lovett: FSU 6-5, 305
Nathan Pickering: Moo State 6-2, 300 lbs.
Most of these guys will be day 2 and 3 picks, but should provide good run stoppage rotation.

One of my favorite players this draft. But I don’t think he’ll be there in Round 2 and I just don’t think a NT is good value at the 14th overall pick of the draft.
And if you go Sweat in Round 2 that means they HAVE to go OT in Round 1 and I’m not entirely sure, unless someone falls, that there’s good value at OT at 14, either.

There’s a surplus of OT in the top 100. Arguably the deepest position at the top end
They paid Cam and drafted Turner and Foskey with top 40 picks. Pay an edge, I don’t want them attempting to identify their next DE draft pick. Push from the interior will only help them

He’s a 3 technique.

Three techniques are so hard to find a freaking luxury.
I picked this dude during a mock draft simulation while I was sitting there at the doctor's office a few times yesterday.

Every single website I’ve run across, ESPN, PFN, Bleacher Report, CBS have all labeled him as a 0 or 1 tech and a lot of sites say that’s where he aligned most often for Texas. It also seems like that’s where his best fit is. Most of your 3 techs look more like Bresee or Chris Jones than mammoths like Sweat
Plus the link in the OP leads to a tweet that literally says NT

I tend to agree. Can this chubby chaser contribute out the gates? If there is a higher rated interior Pass rusher than edge where we pick, then we gotta go interior

Byron Murphy who also played inside with him with Texas, I've seen him getting mocked in the first round.
But some of these sites aren't really updated either.
Things will change obviously once the Combine gets rolling.

Both good grades but that run grade is just as important. The Saints finished 22nd in the league with 119.9 yards given up a game. I know the pass rush is a problem also, but it seems like the Saints D use to take a personal interest in stopping the run game. Not saying that they don't anymore but that's been a problem area more than any other.
In 2022 the Saints were 24th in run defense averaging giving up 130.5 per game.

He played 3 tech 80% of his snaps at UT this past season. It’s going to boil down to who drafts him and what defense they run, I suppose.
Posted on 2/20/24 at 8:17 pm to GynoSandberg
This dude gained like 100lbs in college, others to choose from
Posted on 2/20/24 at 8:43 pm to FMtTXtiger
Yea I’m not sure he needs to be 365, but they did add weight to him intentionally at UT. He got to UT as a 280 lb 3 star
Davis is now LSU’s Bo Davis btw
I like a lot of the DTs mentioned. Not married to Sweat, just looking for a space eater to add to the DL at some point with one of our first few few picks. It’s a must
quote:
With Sweat in the game, Texas gets pressure on opposing quarterbacks 38% of the time, compared to 31% when he's not, according to ESPN Stats & Info. Opposing quarterbacks complete 58% of their passes to 62% when he's out, and are off-target on passes 16% of the time compared to 7% when he's not on the field.
"A lot of guys are big, but they don't have any hip flexibility," Davis said. "[Sweat] can move like a
290-pound guy. He can turn and get skinny.
That's the amazing part you see when you watch him and see the things he does."

I mean…most scouts have him pegged as a NT, man. He’s got the body profile for it. How many 3 tech DTs are over 320 pounds?
Chris Jones: 6’6 310
Quinnen Williams: 6’3 305
Javon Hargrave: 6’2 300
Jeffrey Simmons: 6’4 305
Cam Heyward: 6’5 295
Christian Wilkins 6’4 310
Jonathan Allen: 6’3 300
Granted, those are the elite of the elite but none of those guys is even over 315, let alone 360 like Sweat. Here are some comps for him for size:
Dexter Lawrence: 6’4 345
Vita Vea: 6’4 347
Both of those guys are Nose Tackles. Sweat is gonna be a Nose Tackle. Doesn’t matter what he played in college. So my point still stands. NT at 14 is bad value. Would still love him because I think he’s going to be great but it’s still bad value. If we were picking in the 20s, I’d be ALL IN
Posted on 2/20/24 at 10:33 pm to WicKed WayZ
He did predominantly play in the b gap at Texas.
In the nfl to play there he is going to have to learn some pass rushing moves. He really doesn't have any.
I think he will probably be a 2nd rounder.

Every defense doesn’t deploy a NT, it’s just premature to pigeon hole the guy there when he dominated college playing the B gap. I get it’s easy to default to NT with a guy that big.
Sweat didn’t weigh in Mobile, leads you to believe he’s working to get the weight down come April. But you don’t have to look far back to find heavy 3 tech DTs. Jordan Davis and Mazi Smith. The sumo DTs are a thing of the past; only the athletic freak ones make it, that’s why you can count them on one hand
