Was watching something and they casually dropped this bit of knowledge.
And this calorie intake has existed throughout history till about the 19th century for farmers.
1. No wonder there were so many famines
2. Their latrines after feast days…. Yuck

Gosh dang I'm guessing they ate globs of butter with meals?
I remember watching or reading something about British sailors in the 17-1800s and it said they ate about 5k calories a day. A lot of the calories were from butter

How? What?

What was the typical daily calorie burn of a medieval farmer?

Every bit of work they did was manual labor to a degree. I'd imagine they worked dawn-to-dusk.

I would need to see the research to believe that. You have to try to eat that many calories a day. Even in caloric dense food

I don't know if this is true or not but what I do know is that before industrialization took root, people awoke in the morning and worked all fricking day long. They had to eat mass quantities and even then, they were often skinny as shite.
Constant, unyielding manual labor will do that to you.

A lot of their calories were from alcoholic drinks (beers, ales, meads, ciders, etc) which were safer than water.

Highly unlikely.
By multiples.
For the most part, Europe was starving in the Middle Ages. Not episodically
, but by caloric deprivation. Urban residents often were consuming less than 1500 cals./ day.
This is why disease spread so quickly over large populations, including plagues. People were weak and compromised.
In the Americas, indigenous folks were consuming many more calories per day at that time.

Does this surprise you?
They did manual labor all day.
Ten hours plus I'd guess..
I could easily see them burning that much.
