I seldom drink, did some last night though at a buddy's house. One of the guys there stated he was worried about his brother who drinks half a pint of Jack a night, every night except Sunday. I know his brother, late 30s, appears to be in decent shape. Basically, said it's no different than smoking half a pack a day compared to 2 packs a day. I use to drink a 1/5th a night for a decade, now I drink maybe 1 or 2 1/5ths a year. Half pint doesn't seem like much.

I mean everyone's body is different, I've heard of much much worse and people living till 80.

Also heard of people drinking far less than that dying in thier 50's.

That’s basically like 4-5 shots a night. He’s drinking like 15 pints, or just shy of 2 gallons a month.

That can’t be healthy.

Yes. Thanks for reminding me. About to indulge myself now but a half pint is reserved for LSU games.

Yes. Seriously, you are both alcoholics. Even if you have it under control for 20 years, it can sneak up on you again.

I’d say drinking any amount of alcohol literally every day is pretty unhealthy, even if it’s a very small amount.

It's not a lot at all... for an alcoholic.

Sound like the ol' Dean Martin liquid diet of copious amount of alcohol.

So what I was doing at 1/5th a night was just disastrous. Geez, half a pint doesn't seem like much compared to what I use to do. It seems like a lot to me now, but in the grand scheme of things, not much. Guess I'm wrong. Most of the men I know, my dad, his friends, etc would throw that down for dinner Anyhow, was arguing stating it didn't seem like much, I was wrong.

I like how the rationalization is that it’s like smoking a cig every 1.5 waking hours. Yea, that’s nothing lol

Every night is probably too much. I would never drink that way because due to my tolerance it would stop being fun.

Health wise anything over 2 drinks/wk has shown to increase many risk factors. So yes, too much.

Eta

That's not meant to be a judgement, I tend to drink about 2-3 per week myself

The recommended amount of alcohol per day is zero

I drink, of course, but a pint of whiskey a night will undoubtably shorten his life and cause a shitload of health issues eventually.

I wouldn’t consider it healthy. You can be a functioning adult and I also like to have a drink or one too many on occasions but drinking any significant amount on the daily is just unhealthy. Sure millions of people around the world do it but that wasn’t the question. Alcohol at the end of the day is still a poison that takes your body some work to cleanse. Give your body a break here and there, you only get one of those.
