I grew up with WWL and it had some great reporters and programs at one time. I miss Nash Roberts.

It is horrible now.

Didn't all of the talent leave for Fox 8 after Benson bought Fox 8?

All local news is terrible. It’s not just a Nola thing.

I used to fall asleep to track driving music when I was a kid. Now it's Dave Ramsey all night.

Cant understand Lauren McCoy on Fox News channel 8 . She mumbles her words when she speaks ! But I like the news the best .

I also grew up watching it back in the day of Nash Roberts, Jim Metcalf, and others. I quit watching it 10 years ago.

They laid off or refused to pay a ton of talent.

A lot of their producers and news directors retired or went other places when the management changed and as others posted their best talent went to fox.

ETA: They do have David hammer at WWL still who IMO is as good as zurik at investigations.

Hard to believe it was much better when the Jesuits owned it.
Hap Glaudi was a treasure!

Worked there for 5 years and have inside knowledge of the demise of this station. When I was there our newscasts beat all of the others combined. WWL was one of the top rated stations in the entire country.

Ultimately, TV is a shrinking industry and there was an effort to reduce costs in the newsroom. From a quality and ratings standpoint, huge decline and they aren't sniffing the #1 spot anymore, but not sure the verdict on whether the bottom line is better off. I'd bet not.

Alexandra.

I watched them during the Bacchus ball. Their audio equipment constantly malfunctioned. The hosts didn’t even know proper history of the parade and or Mardi Gras itself. It’s was just a cobbled together mess.

All of their decent on-air talent went to Fox-8

From the 1970’s till literally 3 or so years ago, WWL-TV was the only local news channel most people watched.

Now, no one watches it anymore.

It’s beyond horrible.

Once Loyola sold them, they stopped being concerned about the community and thier employees and focused only on the bottom line. W W L = World Wide Loyola. They no longer project a proffessional image.

Back in the days of David Tyree it was great. It really stated to fall off after that. It's so bad now I probably haven't listen to it in the last 5 or 6 years.

Sorry I was referring to 870am.
It's been longer since I've watched wwl TV for anything other than a game.
