That's a .199 OPS.

I'm surprised they both pitched today. Would've expected him to use the same rotation he has planned for next weekend to get them on a schedule.
My thoughts are one of these guys are throwing Friday and the other is throwing Sunday.
I don’t have any inside intel to back that up just a gut feeling.
Have a feeling Jay wants to go Righty Lefty Righty in the rotation. Which pegs jump as the most likely Saturday guy. While Holman and Hurd battle out the Friday/Sunday spots.

Hurd and Guidry both had bad days. Neither helped the other.
As for Jared, at what point do you (not CJJ) start rolling with someone else?
Thanks Scuba for the report.

We play 4 games per weekend for the first two weeks
And then a week on the road plus a 4 game week before starting SEC play. Any idea why we front loaded the schedule so much? I would've expected that would result in a week or 2 during conference play without a midweek game but that only occurs the last week of the season. Maybe after last season he wanted the pitchers to get more work early on in case of all the 10 run rules?

He will have a super long leash and all the opportunity in the world to keep his spot. I expect plenty fans to be complaining about him in the lineup but he will be in there for as long as they possibly can have him in.

I think it was scheduled to simulate playing games in a tournament like timetable. Give the team that experience in preparation for them maybe having to do it in a winner advance/loser go home situation at the end of the season.
It's likely the smartest way to duplicate playing games in an extended run like like we had in Omaha last year. Best to do it early in the year when players are fresh and use the extra innings for player development and evaluation.

I guess but it also puts a strain on your pitchers early in the year in cool weather before they've been stretched out. I guess this year we're pretty deep so it's not much of a concern. I liked last years method of doing 1 high stress weekend in nonconference and thats it. Change is always hard to accept, but I know better than to doubt Jay on things like this.

That was Guidrys first time live on the mound huh?

He’s pitched the past two weekends.

He has to shorten his swing and work up the middle and to RF, or he’s going to get benched again. His entire off season should have been spent on this.

Likely won't be starting by mid season unless he has an epiphany

It isn’t his swing. It isn’t a long swing like you say. It’s more of a pitch recognition and timing issue. Some of the highlights you can tell he is late on fastballs. His swing is fine. It’s going to be mental for him. If he can break out the mental part and get passed that he will be very good and that is why Jay will allow him to struggle for as long as possible. The potential is super high and this team won’t go where they want to go if Jones don’t get it figured out.

They’ll be on short pitch counts. It will be fine

If we learned anything from last season, it's to reserve all judgement until the very end.
