Gen x and how we were brought up with race and on tv

Will this be the last generation to grow up were things were more “racially” divided. Have been watching the Grammys tonight and was realizing the mass music acts are just not marketed to me anymore. That to me is ok but just things are different now. Seems like after my generation things will be naturally much smoother race wise because the younger generations will not know different and think that something has been taken away from them. We will be the last to know it that way. Religion is a totally different subject.

Im Gen X and while i was watching the incredible Fast Car performance with Tracy Chapman, a gay (?) black woman and Luke Combs , a white country baw- i thought to myself: Why cant this be life ?… and Im not being sarcastic .

Pop culture was much more intergrated in the 1980s.

I'm Gen X, I don't recall race relations being rough in any way growing up. I don't know what the tv thing is about, did you not watch The Cosby Show?

We GenXers grew up watching Sigourney Weaver in Aliens, looking up to Mr. T, and listening to Boy George on the radio. It just was what it was. Nothing seemed forced down people's throats nor did there seem to be much outrage. Somehow, people today think they invented all this.

Tom and Helen Willis first appeared on All in the Family in 1974 before being recast as regulars when the Jeffersons premiered in 1975.
So basically, for anyone under the age of 50, by the time you were aware and watching TV interracial relationships weren’t something brand new and shocking on TV at least.
