Have you seen the forces that they endure or the cardio that is required to stay sharp during those races

Sure, but rational people aren't comparing it to sitting on the couch or driving to the store on a beer run. They're comparing it to what other famous athletes do - run, jump, lift, throw, swing, etc.

How would these F1 drivers do if you put them on a bicycle and made them race in the Tour de France? Keep in mind that things like vision, reflexes, coordination and focus would presumably transfer over. They would get left in the dust because of the whole muscle and stamina thing.

I think it's fair to say racecar driving is more of a skill than athleticism. It probably requires more athleticism than the average person realizes but it's not comparable to what we see in the olympics or the Super Bowl.

This is a terrible comparison. Of course an athlete specializing in one sport would get smoked in another sport. There are very few Bo Jacksons in the world.

That said, there is one current F1 driver that regularly podiums semi-pro cycling races.

This is completely asinine. I'd edit this out and maybe we won't judge you.

"Hey guys, Michael Jordan couldn't make it past AA ball, so he really wasn't a very good athlete. Certainly not as good of an athlete as the ones who make it to the show."

How would Charles Barkley do on a golf course?

Your argument is funny and sad

Lots of F1 drivers cycle. I think Mark Webber and Jenson Button may have been triathletes.

And lots of very athletic people would get left in the dust by a pro. Have you ridden with a pro? The pace of some of our morning rides with the semi-pros passing through is insane. I can't even fathom the level between those dudes and pro cyclists.

Current Olympic sports include:
- Archery
- Equestrian show jumping
- Sailing
- Shooting sports
- Bobsledding
- Curling
- Luge
- Downhill skiing

If the participants in these sports are athletes, so are F1 drivers.
