Hard to get new fans when they have to postpone to a weekday afternoon.

Not NASCAR’s fault obviously, but if I hadn’t been introduced to it by going to a race, this weather part would keep me from ever tuning in.

Doesn’t happen in any other sport.

It's crazy that the rest of the country is almost entirely clear, too. The radar images look as ridiculous as the mini hurricane that sat on top of Chicago last summer.

Does anyone recall another stretch of bad weather luck like this over a year? Maybe I've memory-holed a season or two.

I'm pretty sure I said this in last year's thread and I'm saying it again, NASCAR has the worst luck. It seems like every time they have a signature event and the sports day all to themselves the weather ruins it. Rain outs, rain delays, races shortened due to rain. It happens every time.

I was looking forward to the race today. Tomorrow I'm busy and can't watch.

Me as well. Especially at 4 PM.

And weirdly, once the day passes I become disinterested. Not entirely rational I suppose.

NASCAR should try to make all their tracks with lights for Monday nights. Their season starts right when football ends. Most people don't want to sit at home on a Sunday afternoon to watch racing, but will do it on a Monday night.

The bad news is that the serial downvoter probably had his whole afternoon planned around downvoting every post in this thread during the Daytona 500. What will he do now?

This is why NASCAR will never be big time. I realize no one can control the weather, but imagine this happening with the Super Bowl.

You know that they can't race on a 2.5 mile track at 180-190MPH.in the rain, right?

That's not how this works.

Rainouts don’t happen in baseball?

Pretty sure there was a World Series game postponed because of snow a few years ago.

It almost did happen for the Seahawks-Broncos Super Bowl at MetLife. A winter storm hit hours after the game ended. The NFL even had contingency plans in place to move the game up a day or two if needed. They just lucked out.

Yeah, well the NFL doesn't attempt to make 36 cars that weigh 3800# running 1.5 seconds apart make a turn running 200mph.

Hopefully the Xfinity race goes long and delays the 500 start a couple hours.

I was waiting for this.
Rainouts in baseball are irrelevant for any other game than the WS.
Your game rained out? Watch a different one.
WS game rained out on a Tuesday. No worries, they play in prem time the next day.
NASCAR has one race per week. Rainout means they have nothing. Then they race in the afternoon.

It’s not anything like baseball.

Guy above said nascar won’t be big time because of this. He got 9 downvotes. His argument has validity.

So NASCAR isn’t big time?

The NFL just a few weeks ago delayed a playoff game to a Monday because of weather. By the his argument the NFL will never e big time.

Rainouts suck. I’ve sat through entire weekends to see two races on a Monday. It happens.

Exactly. What the heck else is NASCAR supposed to do? Can’t race wet ovals and simple as that.

If it’s anything like the truck race it will.

What is NASCAR supposed to do about it?

Also, NASCAR has already reached big time. Its popularity isn’t what it once was, but there was at least a time where it was the second most watched sport in the U.S. behind only the NFL. Obviously rain outs weren’t holding NASCAR back when that was the case.

Precisely. This isn’t the first race that has ever been rained out, in NASCAR or Indy cars. It happens. People who understand that you can’t have oval races in the rain understand and accept it. Newbie fans who think this just a big video game need to understand and accept it or go watch something else.
