That’s a fair point…I’m not sure how to work this out in terms of the agreement but I believe that should fall into the category of abandonment. No idea how that would be enforced though so good point.

But people are “stuck” in sexless marriages today…how many men leave vs sticking it out for one reason or another?

20.8% of men will leave their wives if they have cancer. Only 2.9% of women leave.

Is divorcing a mentally ill wife easy?

I could never do that. What a horrible thing to do to someone you have shared your most intimate details of your life with. Mrs.PJ has been very ill fit the last 5 years and has basically depended on me for everything. I have sacrificed a ton, but taking care of her is the right thing to do. Bottom line.

I have a great advice for Michael Knowles to follow- If your idea is so great implement this rule on your own marriage, pal.

No woman will go for this.

Women love being able to cheat, get a divorce and take everything from the husband.

Then why do studies show men are more likely to cheat?

It’s more a thought experiment to illicit the response you’re providing.

The intent of marriage is to never divorce and if that was your intent, then this agreement wouldn’t even matter..

You’re telling me that women with perfect husbands who do everything right decide to create a life where they do nothing but sit on the couch, eat crappy food and turn into miserable humans who can’t be happy?

And they just choose to do this? No mental health issues, no hormonal changes, nothing just wake up and say, “I’m going to treat this wonderful man like shite and slowly die on the couch because F this perfect life we’ve created”.

I said what I said. This doesn’t happen.

I guess I’m just wired different. IMO your spouse should be the most important person or thing in your life. Acceptance is the key to a good solid marriage. Trust should not be a factor if you have found the right person. But trust is earned over the years. It’s not given… another key to our marriage was that I finally quit drinking and our relationship went to a way higher level. We have been together for 30 years. I just don’t see how two people being together that long would not want to be with each other.

Government is not the answer to this problem.
It’s not the government’s fault so many people have unhappy marriages.
This is modern society’s fault.

This agreement incentivizes spouses to take advantage of the other one, knowing they can hold the productive spouse hostage.

People just won't get married with that irrational of a system. How does that help the problem he's addressing?

I’d do it with the following modifications:
-If you commit adultery, abuse, or abandonment, you have left the marriage. You don’t get to be a dick and force your spouse to file while keeping everything.

You should have also included a felony conviction

Hypothetical situation- You come from a wealthy family, one generation away from a massive fortune, knowing this your wife murders your parents. You now get a divorce, under this your wife would get all of your assets to fight the legal case. Great idea!

Something like 80% of all divorces are due to women leaving and the majority reason is “emotional needs”, which is an absolutely bullshite reason.

If it leads to significant prison time I’d throw that in the abandonment bucket.

Guess we’d have to define “significant” though. I’m good with any amount of time.
