Where are the jobs in Coushatta? It’s easy to sit there and say people won’t work. Not everyone has the means the up and move to an area that offers decent employment.
Farming has gotten so commercialized that it’s priced out the average family and has forced them to migrate to cities like Lake Charles or Baton Rouge to work in the industrial sectors. What if you have family that you depend on or they depend on you? Do you just leave them and chase the money? Again, easier said than done.

Hall Summit barely exists now. At one point it had a high school, a town with some stores, and even a pretty nice dress shop. Now, I see pictures of the old high school completely abandoned and run down on the La Abandoned Buildings FB page. It's very sad.
But I contributed to it all. I got out of my tiny town as quickly as I could...literally left for college 2 weeks after high school graduation. My town has a third of it's population in the last 30 years. It's not even a shell of itself. It's depressing to drive through it now.

I grew up in Bienville Parish as well. Compared to the rest of the towns, Arcadia is doing really well. Having the courthouse helps.

Several of my “deplorable” friends and I made a road trip to Greenville a couple of years ago to visit the original Doe’s. It was amazing to us all to see the fine old buildings in Greenville and especially the churches and banks. Even a large Jewish Synagogue. Greenville was obviously a very thriving town at one point.
There are still a lot of catfish ponds. I remember when Bob Odom was commissioner of agriculture he railed against the Vietnamese basa fish and how it shouldn’t be labeled as catfish. Has catfish consumption fallen in the past 20-30 years? It doesn’t seem so to me. Maybe the catfish production moved to AR or other parts of MS?
We enjoyed Doe’s and will probably go back. The security guard did “walk” us to the front door. As we were leaving a limo drove up with a bunch of late twenty to 30 year olds arriving from Cleveland for a nite at Doe’s. Interesting place.

The other - in December - I actually asked what was in the pies. They're all stuffed solid with nasty vegetable shortening despite the high prices.
I won't be stopping there again. Oh, and LeCompte is seriously depressing.

Try Bastrop La, mill shut down and it continued it's downward spiral. Median sq ft home price is $70.00, i am glad i found a buyer when i did for our farm house.

Barely afloat...
Greenwood MS is a prime example of class stratification. The town is divided north and south by the Yalobusha river. The south half of Greenwood is a struggling downtown surrounded by poor dilapidated neighborhoods.
But once you cross the river to North Greenwood, the contrast is immediate with big southern antebellum houses, green lawns, and the streets are clean and well maintained. It's like a completely different town..

I think TPT thinks the corp farms priced the little farmers out. Not sure how many corp farms even exist in La, shirley it can be very many. Now corp ownership of farm land is a whole nuther story. Marginal farm land is selling way beyond any way to pencil out actually ownership by mortals.

I figured it out. I never knew her but, was friends with her mother in high school. Also know her father.
