If I've read correctly, Neal has not been catching in the scrimmages. Does it appear, for now, they're thinking of him as a DH? Is he being brought back from injury slowly? Thanks.

DH only. We are deep at Catcher. He may eventually get some reps there or at 2B.

Neal caught in early November when i saw them scrimmage, and looked awesome. He threw out a runner(frey maybe) with a MLB type throw to 2B

Neal is a stud behind the plate. It would make no sense for him not to catch other than him still being hurt.

Gotta be bringing him along. Jay said Millazo will be C only and Neal can play multiple spots. Neal is great behind the plate but his bat needs to catch up.

If I'm not mistaken, Neal has the same back issue that Hurd came in with. I don't think it's correctable. They have to adjust his movements to keep him from aggravating it. They did a masterful job with Hurd, albeit with some early trial and error. If, in fact, Neal has the same issue, I would imagine that they're closely monitoring each and every session to see what does and doesn't work. He can't just come back at full swing doing what he's always done.

We have the luxury of Milazzo and Travinski to shoulder the load, regardless. Neal will get time at C and DH, but I don't think he will force it down his throat like he did last season now that they know what they know. Getting reps for Frey and even Jones behind the plate would be for additional flexibility if we had injuries. Neal is our lone LHH backstop.

People forget that Neal should actually be a true freshman this season. He reclassified and showed up to campus as a 17 year old. His potential is off the charts. The fact that he started to open the season last year ahead of Travinski and Milazzo tells you what Jay thinks about him.

If he is fully healthy, he will get the lion share of the time. He got it last season until he got injured.

In the report I read from Johnson’s press conference, the infield starters were set but no mention was made of cataher. Travinski was mentioned but as a hitter.

Neal’s the starter when he’s healthy, we have already seen that to be true

Plus Jay has more incentive now to play him with the lack of LH bats this year
