Phil Spencer just sent 1,900 employees (out of 22,000) to the unemployment line...

Hopefully they get rid of all the different studios for CoD and just merge them all so it can be cohesive.

Or all of these tech companies ever hired during the pandemic and uptick in that business didn't last.

I'm sure all their acquisitions created a lot of redundant staff.

It's almost like consolidation is bad for the industry or something.

At least I'll be able to play CoD on gamepass eventually right?

I'm surprised it wasn't more with such a large acquisition. I'd think ABK and MS would have a lot more redundant positions than that.

i think that's partially true. from a few sources it seems that a lot of these companies projected a 5% increase throughout the years. a somewhat aggressive but not ridiculous projection. it sounds like those are hitting in general, but the projections were based of covid pandemic population numbers were we all know are not truly representative. Tie that in with it had been stupid cheap to borrow money and now its not, its a pretty big mismanagement of funds with way less actual growth.

be nice of some of these arse hat ceo's and boards took pay cuts and not get golden parachutes instead of firing hard working men and women, but hey, thats america now. no accountability at the top, shite on those who got you there.

Bobby Kotick retired after helping navigate the sell to MS, and Mike Ybarra at Blizzard resigned alongside these employee layoffs.

ABK went from 9,800 full time employees to 13,000 full-time employees form 12/31/2021 to 12/31/2022. I think they were going to have to layoff people regardless, and I'm thinking the only reason ABK hadn't done so already is the optics of laying people off while the MS/ABK deal was under international scrutiny. I'm not sure why they did so much hiring in 2022. It's honestly surprising to me that MS didn't have to layoff more than they did.

retired with a golden parachute. he was given 15 million on his departure. he was also insanely compensated as part of the acquisition this year. should of gotten a boot to the arse and a middle finger. Those monies should go to pay increase severances to those losing jobs.

i willing to bet Mike also got a nice chunk of change while others go the shaft.

Nah, they shouldn't.

Nothing else actually exists. Money either flows from those who have it, or it doesn't flow at all.

Well that's clearly false. If it didn't flow at all, none of us would have jobs.
