The future is citizens connecting with individual journalists/hosts they trust. The days of the conglomerates deciding what’s “news” and controlling the narrative are over.

Thanks, nationally renowned journalist, Megyn Kelly! I really needed you to set the narrative for how to interpret these events.

When I was a kid, one of the three stations we could get gave news early in the morning, at noon, at six, and ten PM.
It's 10 PM, do you know where your children are?"
Eventually we started getting 60 Minutes type shows that masqueraded themselves as news and journalism but were nothing more than establishment commentaries. Now we have beaucoup channels that spew out their opinions 24/7.
This is where it has come and all should be viewed with a healthy dose of skepticism.

That’s what happens when people realize your product mostly has no value, and refuse to pay for it.

Hopefully, one day true journalism will return.
I don't think this "true journalism" ever existed. It was an open secret that JFK slept around and nobody ever reported it. Just like the press never reported that FDR was wheelchair bound. Ford was the most athletic president in history and the media painted him as a klutz. The Tet Offensive was a major defeat for the VC, but not according to the New York Times. Speaking of the Times, its reporter won a Pulitzer Prize for suppressing the famine in the Ukraine that Stalin caused.
The press has always been in the tank, it just wasn't so obvious back then.

As much as I’d like to pin this on leftist writing I think it’s probably caused by peoples’ lack of attention spans. Much easier to read a headline or blurb on twitter and call it a day than reading an entire article.
You're not wrong. And the content creators and aggregators know this, leading to using targeted/deceptive headlines/burbs.

Journalism is a lost art. They are all opinion pieces

The industry has been falling for over 2 decades

With deep fakes and AI becoming more common, I’m of the opinion traditional media outlets may come back around. The only sources that are verified and you can trust. Of course for poli board types, they’ll just continue to swim in a world of make believe and conspiracies.
Wow.
If you are still asleep at this stage of the game, I just don’t know if there is any hope for you at all.
God save this nation.

Digital media and mainly podcasts put the death shot on these institutions
It would be interesting to go back to 1985 or so, and sit through a day of reading papers, the Sporting News, watching broadcast news, waiting hours to see our shows.. and see how long our attention spans could handle it. Not having media on demand would cause mass anxiety.

Straight out of Vietnam in 1970, I worked hard to earn a degree in newsprint Journalism from LSU.
Naive and honest to the bone, I plied my way through community journalism and then up to editing at a regional level. Retired from The Advocate in 2012.
My dismay with honest reporting was already growing rapidly as I saw opinion seep into virtually every story I edited. Today I am almost ashamed that I have to call myself a retired journalist.
But when newspapers did their job, it was a thrill and a proud time of my life. Heck, in the 70s and 80s we were almost treated like celebrities. Maybe that was one of the problems.
Reading newspaper stories today is disheartening — errors, typos and opinionated verbs fill the pages. And when I see a story bylined by The AP — I just cringe.

When they all parrot the same bull shite, not many of them are needed.
