Do people seriously believe Trey wont get a MAX contract?

Been seeing on twitter guys vehemently saying Trey wont get a Max or anything close to it. Do they understand how the NBA works?

Do you?
He’s got a lot of improving to do to warrant a max contract.
Giving him a max will be as stupid as Tobias Harris current contract. They are both really good players, but there’s a vast difference between Harris and Trey and legit all star caliber players.

Yeah I do.
6'9 Wings who can shoot the lights off and go to the basket get paid A LOT of money.

Yes, people who get max contracts are all-stars or very close to it. Trey is not close to that level yet.

What do you think he would accept, factoring in other offers?

Between a constantly rising cap and the many different levels of max contracts, I think max contract is now a nebulous word and people say it without actually knowing what it means. I don’t mean that as an insult either, just that it’s hard to talk about because everyone brings different assumptions when they see max contract.
Also, Trey will be an RFA and every team knows we will match. That will naturally lower his price some as the system is designed.

He won’t be getting a max deal, but he will get a deal in the 25-30 range per year

The floor is Cam Johnson’s 4/95, and with raising salary cap, I don’t know how we get away with resigning him for anything less than 25m a year

My thing is I see no way he doesnt get 5/150
Reading current CBA, he wont be hitting of the extra kickers though so I would think this would be his ceiling.

He’s not getting a max but he’s getting a lot. I would guess 5 for 150. Similar to Devin Vassell

That’s not a max though. In 2025-26 the cap will be $156 million. The 25% max would start at $39. $30 million a year that year would be 19% of the cap.

Wrong.

I don't think a team would lower an offer on basis expecting to be matched. If anything, a team that might want him might try overpaying thinking it'll scare off the Pels with all the other guys we'll need to pay. A team with cost controlled guys other something like $170M/5.

Yeah its 25-30% of Cap after further reading. For some reason I thought rookie extensions were capped at 150 million.

It’s not that they lower the offer, it’s that when you make an offer to an RFA your cap space is tied up and you can’t use it to pursue other FAs. So if you are certain the other team will match, even if you throw a max at Trey, you are only hurting yourself to make a bid. That means there may not be offers for Trey to go get.
I think we’re splitting hairs here. Trey is probably going to get near max money, but not actual max money. And that is going to be fine. If they are a contender then, they should be ok with paying taxes. If they aren’t a contender then at least one of the Big 3 will need to go.

Trey deserves a 2/3 year contract to prove he’s a max player. I don’t think he’s quite there yet and I love him. You aren’t giving your “6th man” max money.

This contract is 2 years away. A lot of the Trade BI now or we’re screwed talk is fear over a confluence of events 2 years out.
Having a lot of good players under contract is a good problem to have. CJ was viewed as a negative contract and they still got a 1st for him. BI is not going to become some Albatross on his next deal.
