I’m very sorry for your loss. This really hit my heart this morning while reading it.
I’m extremely blessed to have neighbours like you Lonnie. My wife and I have lived next door to two of the most loving people on Gods green earth for 34 years.
They’re both in their upper 70’s and in frail health. We know our time with them on this side of heaven is short and reading this has me in tears.
I’m praying for the peace of God to rest on his wife and children.
Lonnie, I’m praying for you, your family and those in the surrounding area to be all that his wife will need in the days ahead. That’s how expressing the love of Christ is demonstrated!
I hope everyone reading this has what you and I have experienced. Knowing and loving great neighbours!
May the Lord grant everyone mercy and grace today!

Thank you very much Smitty. I appreciate the prayers.

Went to a nursing home last week to help a friend deliver water there, he has a water business. Man that is a sad, sad environment. People are just waiting to die around strangers. The look on their faces when they see strangers, it's like they are hoping it's someone they know.

Yep, went to see my uncle and my aunt was giving us the 411 on all of the patients. Coaches, bankers, ect just waiting to die.
Neighbor across the street is from Wisconsin and we rarely see his kids (couple years ago they came down). He walks twice a day and i start calling if we dont see him, also now has some kind of cancer.

A couple of months ago, my across the street neighbor (who's about 10 years younger than me) and I were talking about last 4th of July and how much Mr. Bill loved fireworks. During COVID he insisted we go to the Mall to watch the city fireworks. So he put my family in the back seat of his F350 and drove use over and we had a great time. Most years, Bill, his wife and a couple of the neighbors would bring their lawn chairs over and sit in our driveway and we'd socialize for an hour or two while we launched a few. Hearing his chuckle during these times was It was one of my fondest memories of him

So my across the street neighbor and I decided to throw a neighborhood fireworks show in his honor. About 2 weeks ago I saw his widow outside and told her what we were planning. It moved her to tears when we told her. We printed up fliers and took them around to all the houses on our street, It was good wholesome American fun. Ice cream, lemonade, watermelon cup cakes and of course pyrotechnics. Needless to say we sent Bill's memory out with a BIG bang. More than one tear was shed last night but they were tears of joy knowing how much Bill would have loved it. It was great to see all of our neighbors show up and enjoy the show (even the ones that aren't very social most of the time). At one point his parking strip sprinklers came on and soaked a few of us on "the crew". That was just the sort of prankster he was. What a great night. Can't wait to do it again next year, bigger and better.

Edit: I forgot to add that we let his wife light the fuse to the "Grande Finale."

That's legit cool of you all, Lonnie. It is good to see a neighborhood come together these days, hopefully it leads to a yearly tradition.

We already put "first annual" on the fliers we handed out.

We did have a bit of a solemn moment yesterday, however. Our neighborhood also does a 4th of July pancake breakfast every year as well. Well, we always opened the day by Mr. Bill doing the opening prayer and my son, the boy scout, presenting the flag and leading us in the pledge of allegiance. About 10 mins before we got started yesterday, the realization hit us that Bill wouldn't be there to say grace. Was passed the torch to one of the other gentlemen in the neighborhood and a new tradition was born.

Had something similar happen to a elderly next door neighbor about 10 years ago. He was dementia ridden at that point, but he would go out on walks every morning. Well, one Sunday morning he went for a walk and somehow tripped and cracked his skull on the concrete in front of his house. It was early so by the time someone found him it was too late.

Rough situation. Feel bad for the dog.

Sad to hear.

If this would’ve happened a week ago, a Realtor® from Baton Rouge could have taken the dog to love and cherish.

Timing is everything.

is reading and reading comprehension something that you find difficult? He was clearly bumping to provide an update on his original post...nothing odd about it.

Oh no!! His poor dog will never understand why he left and never came back.

My grandmother had a little dog who was acting all out of sorts when she died. My uncle picked him up and held him over the coffin so he could see her. After that, he settled down. They understand when something is wrong and they understand death.
