Nah, he was right and you just proved his point with this negative post about Woodward and basketball.

Well the Rant has never been wrong about anything. Ever.

So you can take your chances with the “experts”.

After Nichols, I win't judge anyone who was down on him.

He seems like a program-builder. Seems like that is what Woodward hires for. Basketball had further to go

That’s just not true. This is not 1995, threat of sanctions are not that big of a deal. Didn’t seem to slow down Arizona.

Before the entire back court came apart last year we were 12-1 with a win against top 10 Arkansas.

At that point Mac was 43-4 over the prior 18 months, including a mid major tourney run at his previous stop.

I think it's obvious he can coach, he just lacks the roster. Last year we had a nice post player but no back court, and this year we have hella guards but no post presence.

Just gotta ride it out and collect the parts. Fortunately it's easier and faster in MBB than the other two majors.

IF MM is a bad coach for not having a PG his first year and part of this year then is Mulkey a bad coach for not having a point guard this year?

As well as Jordan Wright.
Ward is good also.
If we make the Tourney, I'm sold.
And there is a chance.

Oddly enough, the two most impressive wins IMHO of his tenure here came with Cook not really playing all that well.

We've started rebounding, and playing with a bit of an edge and some toughness the past 2-3 weeks that just was not there at all before....in fact those two things have been our weakness since his game 1 here.

That he's gotten this out of them has made the difference...IMHO.

He's a good x and o coach. Will he be able to recruit at the high level needed to win the conference?

I think he can coach them up to middle of the conference... but he needs better players to be really good at this level.

Based on what, exactly? He didn't "build" the Murray St. program. It was built LONG before he inherited the job. Here, only 5 players returned from from last year's team. That's only 2 more that returned for his first LSU team.

It is GREAT LSU/McMahon are finally having a bit of success. There is every reason to be cautiously optimistic. But the unequivocal posts after each win chest-bumping that "LSU has their guy for the long term" are ridiculous. Anyone who has been an LSU basketball fan for longer than 2 weeks can tell you it's FAR too early to reach such conclusions. Brady went to the Final Four...then finished dead last the next season. Johnson won the SEC in his first year...then won 5 SEC games, total, the next two years. Jones took a roster of misfits and went .500 in SEC play his first season...he then spent the next 4 reaching only one NCAAT and bottoming out the program in his last year. At points in the careers of EVERY.SINGLE.ONE of those coaches there were fans on here definitively stating LSU "had their guy!"

Thus far, since becoming "whole", LSU is a better team than last year. And while the 3-1 record is great and reason for optimism, it's NOT reason for overreaction (just like the 12-1 start last season). LSU has one great, unexpected win (at A&M) and two home wins over opponents against which they were favored. Ole Miss's record is the reason they are ranked. But the data suggested they aren't as good as their record indicates...which is why LSU was a favorite. The one loss was a blowout against at the home of one of, if not the best team in the SEC.

Is McMahon "the guy"? I hope so. But let's wait to see how the season progresses before we start drawing any definite conclusions.

Unless they play bad. Then we know he’s not the guy, huh
