Any of you married men with families ever quit your job without having another lined up?

I’m absolutely miserable at my current job at a CPA firm, and I don’t think they’re going to keep me around much longer anyway. It’s just not working out. I have my CPA license, my MBA, and I have a notary commission, so I think I can get another job.
Working 50 hours per week during busy season is making it very hard to look for other jobs and go on interviews. Some potential employers are flexible about interview times, and others aren’t.
Should I just quit and start spending all my time looking for another job, or should I stick it out and try to find another job while working the 50 hours a week?
This is a tough decision because I am married, and I’m trying to have kids. I have a good bit of money saved, but I don’t want to deplete my savings too too much.

Start putting feelers out
If you get an interview call in sick to your current job

Nope. Man up and figure it out. Get another job if you want it and use your savings or find a way.
Many people will tell you what you want to hear. I’ll tell you what you need to hear. Nut up and do what’s best for your family and your mental.

That's a question only you can answer.

Easier to find a job when you have a job.

Yep, but I started my own business... not sure if that counts..

That’s it? Probably from home too. Our country is doomed.

HELL NO
Unless you've got a mountain of cash readily accessible (like a few years worth) why would you ever take such a risk?
Suck it up till you find something better.

Sounds like two different things .

Don't quit but dont procrastinate. Put out real feelers. Try and get a job like you dont have one. Something will come up or they will fire you and you have a head start. Its a decently long process as you know and usually once hired, you have another 2 weeks of onboarding until you can actually start.

I struggled my first year out the military (retired Army) 15 jobs. Finally learned you cannot talk to civilians the way you talked to folks in the military, Also found out that some civilians don't give two craps about the company they work for, just the paycheck.

Sounds like you'll be fine either way. Sometimes people can really benefit from some time off but don't underestimate how much stress looking for a job can cause. If you decide to quit and start looking then have a good plan and routine and stick to it. Workout, relax a little and set a schedule for job searching and don't obsess over it. Put out contacts to the right people and cold apply where you think you have a chance. Spend about 5-6 hours doing it and do not touch it outside of those hours.
Either way, you sound like you have enough head on your shoulder to come out okay no matter what. Trust your instincts.

What does your wife say? How old are you? Home owner? Lots of things to consider. I know it’s best to have a job lined up bf quitting but only you (and wife) have to live with your decision.

You have some creds. Now you need to increase your self esteem/confidence & go take the job you want.

Always have another job lined up before quitting your current job.

When I moved on from my previous company, I did have another job lined up. That said, I took off an entire month before I went back to work and it was awesome.

Yes. Promises were made to me that were not kept. Regardless, I made a few moves here and there.
Long, long story short: I won in the end.

Can you play cornerback? Defensive tackle? Coordinate an offense? Then I can’t help you!
