Indirectly, yes.
Solid proof was in that EBR parents Facebook page posted yesterday.
Private or true magnent(like baton rouge high or ben franklin) Parent teacher night 80% or more of parents show up compared to public less than 20% show up. Private school sends correspondence to parents again 80% pluse responses and guess what it is at publics...

In St. Tammany?
I’m not sure, but I would suggest that it is a pretty high percentage.

I’m actually surprised by this.

Calcasieu closed but that was guaranteed weeks ago.

I don't think anyone is debating the challenges being a bus driver brings.
Everyone is questioning how no preparation seems to ever be considered.

quote:Yep. Just got the call. I’m out here driving all around the area (for work) and things look fine. Not really sure why they needed much more than a late start today. I know it’s gonna be colder overnight, but pretty much every road I’ve traveled has been dry.

Guess whoever is making the call decided that it didn't get warm enough to melt the ice on elevated roadways and everything will just refreeze tonight.

Because Louisiana isn't equipped to handle all of the roadways. You have several areas in the state that will still have water and ice on the road tomorrow.
The state is worried about main highways and bridges. You cannot safely transport students. Also as I stated earlier, a lot of buses do not have heat control along with many schools being older, are not equipped to properly deal with this cold.
Even with it being 31 here currently because of the wind chill the "feels like" is 20. Was under that for most of the day and was in low teens until about 8a.m.

I walked to school in a foot of snow. We had proper gear though.

no, the sane ones are saying "what could be done differently" and no resolutions have been posted

My LP school has a significant amount of ice on sidewalks where the sun doesn’t hit

I suggested a delayed start.

You have to have the people in place before resolutions are considered. We are no where near that point.

The letter Ascension sent out mentioned how even with a delayed start because of the wind chill it will still be in the low teens until 10. That they didn't feel it was safe for students to be waiting for the bus in those conditions. Because of the time they could not start on a delayed schedule with buses running 3 different routes.

That would work, but it's not forecasted to get above freezing until around noon tomorrow.

Parishes don't spend tax money on significant snow removal vehicals like they do up North because it's a rare even in Louisiana. It's as simple as that.

Right... it may be shitty and inconvenient. But how to you justify the upkeep on a fleet of de-icing vehicles that will be used maybe once every 5 years?
