I applaud any man or woman who goes into a river to save someone. That being said, our border patrol agents should not have to put their lives at risk for someone from another country illegally entering our country.
As much as I admire the heroes who save others, I don’t have any problem with border patrol not entering the water.

Here is an NPR article from 2022 saying that drownings in the Rio Grande are common. In fact there are “dozens” a month:
