Never understood the JV hate

The guy is a solid NBA big man who can score. The knock against him has always been on the defensive end but it’s the NBA, defense is no longer the name of the game, you have to score the ball. The pels are definitely a better team with him on the floor!

JV is a warrior. Does all the dirty work in the low post and never misses a game.

Recency bias. He had stretches last year that he was down right unplayable. He’s been absolutely fantastic this year.

He’s always been invaluable.
When any of our 4 stars ( we are spoilt!) decide not to produce that night, you can always count on him to get some easy buckets down low and pull in the boards.
He has been playing better on D this year

He was clearly exhausted from logging all those minutes in FIBA

JV is not perfect, but he almost never misses time, hits his FTs, and is a great teammate. Oh yeah, he can also punish teams offensively if they go small and body up on some of the big men dominating the NBA.
He's also on an insanely reasonable contract.
The people who irrationally bitch about Jonas don't understand that there isn't a realistic option to upgrade from him. I understand that I've loved JV since his rookie year and I'm biased, but I can also look at the market for upgrades (have done so multiple times on this board) and they just aren't there. Either the player is too valuable or too expensive.

Clearly, he is no Omer Asik or Alexis Ajinca! But i'm actually a big fan of JV.
The run of C's we had after Tyson Chanler left was painful.

Fans often blame a players flaws rather than roster problems, which is really odd considering how quickly fans will trash a GM. Look at last season with all of the CJ hate when he was forced to be a lead guard rather than the off ball role he's was traded to play and is playing perfectly this season with Zion and BI healthy.
If you had a good 3rd big that can do some things JV and Larry can't, you'd plug the roster hole and people would be happy with JV in a better fitting role where we didn't have to ask him to step up against bad matchups.

It’s not hate. JV is an advantage in some situations and a liability in others. He’s a great teammate and has won us a few games. We are a better team when we have Larry who can do things JV can’t. It gives us amazing flexibility.
I don’t think we get significantly better by moving him for any big in the NBA save a very select few.

It’ll be 2050 and dudes on here will still be in the trade machine trying to get Myles Turner, naz reid and Daniel gafford
Meanwhile fans of other teams all would love to have JV

Dudes want to give up the clearcut better player AND throw in 1st rounders.

Jonas is 31 and is expiring. It would be malpractice to not try and trade him, unless they already have a handshake extension.

Val has done a MUCH better job this year not getting as many moving screens, which drive me nuts.
He got at least one per game last year. This year, it's like every third game.
Over the last 10 or so, he's also done a much better job not picking up offensive fouls that are just silly, like obviously clearing dudes out with his elbows.
Those are my main complaints with him. Otherwise, dude is a rock.

It wouldn't necessarily be malpractice if we're looking at a possible 4 seed and getting rid of him would make us worse this season.

He’s an incredibly likeable player who provides good value in certain matchups but can also get played off the floor in others. Also works his butt off. I like him but also understand why people think we need to upgrade to a better rim protector.

You are if you’re presently a tax team and the contract is $15 million.

I question how big of a need a rim protector is now that Zion and BI are playing defense and don't need to be covered for. We're almost halfway through the season and have the 7th rated defense, and it doesn't feel like a fluke. That's with Larry being injured or playing terribly until about 7 games ago.

I like JV but if you are trying to be a serious playoff contender, you should recognize by now that the Pels DON'T think they can afford to play JV at crunch time.
How many times do they have to send Nance out there (when healthy) at crunch time, before everybody understands what they truly think about JV? Keep him around for the regular season "pounding" and even let him play some of the time come playoffs...just make sure you have him on the bench for the final few minutes. He will get abused time and time again, on the defensive end, if you try to stick him out there too much, come playoff time.
IF...a decent trade to replace him comes along...you gotta make the move. JMO
