NIL & portal killed Saban from the inside

My sauces are telling me the amount of guys coming thru coaches office (25+) after the semi-finals asking for more money and not showing any remorse for the loss was the straw that broke the GOATS back.
The portal and NIL are killing the game we all love.
The NCAA needs a commissioner to get this straight, I would like to officially nominate Saban as the first commissioner of the NCAA
what do y’all think ?

I think it's killing a lot of coaches.
Being a coach at a major P5 school is already a 24/7 job. When you're not playing, you're recruiting and so on.
But this added layer of having to basically keep recruiting the kids that are already on your roster to keep them from transferring, the power shift in a teenager having 6 figures in their bank account, and the list goes on.
I have to imagine being a head coach right now is the biggest fricking headache and most time consuming job you could imagine.
College coaching is becoming a young man's game more than ever now.

I'm hearing the same thing, don't care if I'm believed. He had enough, plain and simple. The current landscape is not Saban's way of running a program.

I'd love to see him help out politically this situation before we self destruct the game we love. There is none better at communicating a message...
he's going to live in Florida,... get in a golf cart or fishing boat...then do TV gigs at his own leisure...
Is Ms Terry sick? hope those reports are false...
Cowherd said he heard Saban signed a massive TV deal...like north of a 100 million...others tweeted about it as well

Yeah poor fella liked to be able to pay the most under the table and then players couldn't transfer without sitting out either. Prayers up

Well they can't really touch NIL
They just need to remove the free transfers unless the HC leaves. The portal is fine without that.

dude can't stash 5 stars on his rosters as easily as he used to. not sure this is a bad thing, if anything it should create more parity. the schools and coaches make plenty of money, they should adapt or quit.

He's 72. Who wants to deal with that bullshite at 72?

you obviously missed out on playing team sports.
the friendships I have with my old teammates are deep are beyond anything I can explain
Your comment shows you haven’t experienced commitment and what happens when men come together and sacrifice for one another
Only thing close would be military and I can understand / empathize how tough it is for those who serve to assimilate back in to a society like we currently have
Money for nothin and chicks for free
It will leave you lonely and hollow inside after the parade leaves town. Looking in the mirror after you jumped around to three schools in 4 years chasing “it” must be a real bitch
sitting on the bench for my first 2 years of college ball made the next two more special than I can explain
Instant gratification is instant, but not always gratifying as you look back on life and the choices you make
Parity is NOT the answer and only comes with a draft
Buying players doesn’t create parity my friend, it only creates an uncontrollable market. Ask Jimbo and the A&M fans how that worked out

Agree completely.
You are the most accomplished HC in a generation...maybe ever. But in addition to what you always had to deal with as a college HC, you constantly have 18, 19, 20 year old and their "hanger on" families leveraging you as free agents. The 4 star backup RG comes into your office and says he wants more money or he's transferring. The guy is a good prospect. You think you can develop him into a great player. But he hasn't done shite to date and now he's making bigger demands to which if you cave it starts a waterfall of bigger demands. If you don't cave, he walks, and now you are in a bit of a bind in trying to replace him.
The NFL has it's own headaches. But it does have some degree of certainty with the rosters because of employment contracts. There is also an offseason that coaches can enjoy. You aren't forced to spend every weekend in May in ghettos across the country listening to demands from families that don't have a pot to piss in and basically begging a kid to join your team. A kid who will very likely try to leverage you for a bigger contract after one season.
I think what separated Saban from most is he LIKED the grind of recruiting. But once perpetual "contract negotiations" became an every day part of the game it wasn't worth it anymore for a guy who has nothing left to accomplish/prove.

Saban has flat out publicly said that NIL/transfers and how they changed the game is what made him hang it up.

I think NIL affected Saban the most, not longer had the loaded deck since there is more parity.

I’d honestly love for Saban to be on some sort of committee to address these concerns about the changing landscape of CFB.
NIL isn’t going anywhere and was long overdue imo, but the portal rules seem to be the real issue bc it encourages free agency. Just make players have to sit a year for transferring unless they meet some specific criteria: grad transfer, HC retired/fired, redshirt season, etc.
