What are you all using to hear your well sheds with the upcoming freeze? New to wells since moving last year. Previous owner just had a halogen light set out there, but was thinking of putting some kind of heater out there to be safe.

It doesn't need to be warm in there it just needs to be above freezing. A light is fine. All I ever used is a chicken coup light.

We never had anything but a heat lamp when I was growing up and as an adult when I had a well. Something like this, we would replace the regular light with this one. Click on the image to go to the Home Depot site with the bulb though the halogen you have is probably as hot as this one. he bulb

You don't need it to be warm in there, just above freezing. I'm talking about the Lafayette area though, south of I-10, so where you are may make a difference.
Assuming you have an outlet available, you could get something like this if you are worried. Click the image to go to Home Depot's site. They have a couple in stock in Lafayette.

Or a small space heater should work as well but I'm not sure you would need more than you already have. Particularly if your pump shed is insulated. Remember also that every time your pump runs it generates heat.

go to the hardware store and get a clamp on work light and a 125w heat lamp bulb

I use 3 light bulbs and I have a thermometer inside with an outside gauge. Usually stays 50 F inside when freezing outside.
Just checked: 20 F outside Temp, 40 F inside pump house Temp, 60 F water temp from house inside faucets. Well water from aquifer is about 72 F.

This what I have always done at the camp. Just don’t put it near anything flammable

I have some bushes in front of my well. So, I set a ladder behind the well and drape a tarp over the ladder and the bushes. I hang a bulb on the ladder, and make sure that the tarp is touching the ground all the way around.
Like someone said earlier, it just has to stay above freezing.

All I have ever used are lights, but a heater would certainly work as long as you don’t melt a bunch of plastic water pipe. Obviously, the light bulb would need to produce heat. You would not want an led or fourescent bulb.

All you need is an incandescent light bulb if there is a cover over the well.

my well aged isnt particular insulated well.
I put two 250 watt heat lamps + old outdoor rugs over where there are gaps in the eaves of the room/door.
probably over kill but I wasnt going to be home so better safe than sorry.
