No, I doubt we would have
quote:

All the SEC teams stepped it up in the early 2000s. No reason to think LSU wouldn't have as well, eventually.

Actually, it was Saban at LSU that sparked the SEC surge.

Before then, the SEC was a good regional conference, usually behind the national powers. Yeah, there was Bama and then occasionally 1-2 other teams making runs (Fla, Tennessee).

Saban at LSU shifted the power structure, and forced the SEC (Auburn, Florida, Georgia, then Alabama) to catch up. In order to stay on top of the SEC, those teams elevated themselves to national championship tier.
Saban going to Alabama forced the rest to continue chasing that level.

If not for Saban, Richt is a god at UGA, and MAYBE one natty (maybe). Kirby never happens.

Saban and Emert proved what was possible at LSU. I waited about fifty years to see that. I will always appreciate him. He was the greatest.

You are exactly correct. How and why do people criticize and hate the man for setting up his future. He Did what he was expected to do, and also asked to be paid for such accomplishment. Wasnt Stoops the Highest Paid until Saban took his Championship crown? It was in his contract to be paid like a champion is paid. I hated the fact that he went to the NFL and realized, hey, maybe I should stick to the young college kids. If saban would have stayed at the college level, perhaps he would have become the bear bryant of LSU. Sometimes success brings a basket of spoils. I respect Saban as a Coach. No one should take away the fact that he is a GOOD/Great Coach, and remember this is the SEC in which he wond 6 titles.

He went to bama because we told him no. Everyone leaves that part out.

I don't know the full story / would u kindly elaborate?

Was rehiring Saban post-Dolphins a possibility?
Did Skip say no to stay faithful to Les? If so that was probably the lowest possible head coach buyout/lol

Yes. Lsu showed by hiring Saban we were willing to spend money. It was inevitable.

If Gerry DiNardo fires Lou Tepper Saban may have never coached at LSU.

If Tiger stadium got hit by an asteroid in 1998 would Saban have come to LSU? These what ifs are so stupid. IT DIDN’T HAPPEN

It doesn't really work that way. Plenty of schools are willing to spend money & never win shite.

Kind of like Texas A&M

He took Mich State, a team on probation, to the top of the conference.
He has been a winner everywhere he has been.

how many National Championships does LSU have today if Saban stayed in Miami?
1, maybe 2 more. 2011 for sure. 2012 potentially.

I don’t believe we win the 2003 or 2007 titles without him

IMO it actually comes down to a guy with a vision who hired a like mind in Saban.
The prior good ole boys wouldn't have had the clairvoyance to make the 2000s happen.

Probably not. Saban ordered the football ops center to be built and really focused on the facilities which were important in that era. I dont think we eould have one another without all the upgrades
