Subtly hitting the reset button that we’ve needed for several years now. Allowing DA to remain at the helm through this wasted season ahead of us

I don't pretend to know how to balance the cap, but underhill said the Lattimore restructure opens the door for trading him. When underhill says stuff like that, I don't think he's shooting from the hip

The Saints aren’t rebuilding. This team believes in DA and Carr. They will run it back.
They will get rid of Latt and Adebo and Taylor will step in. No Mathieu or Maye so they will grab another safety in FA or the draft.
I think they let Cam decide what he wants to do. They aren’t trading him. While we say we need line, we need a DT and hope that Foskey and or Turner can step up and play well.
On offense Thomas is gone but he is a non factor. Ram retires and Peat likely gone so you need at least one tackle and most likely two. Receivers are young and decent. Even if you get rid of Kamara you just drafted a RB and you can pick them up cheap.
The bigger question is do they fire the whole offensive staff and get a good online coach and good OC. If they did that and added some pieces they are right back where they are last year —-a middling team. The FO thinks that type of roster is good enough for the NFC south. If Allen wins the south next year at 9-8 he isn’t going anywhere and we are screwed.

This will be a disaster. Everyone wants Allen gone. Pull the mutha fricking trigger Micky. Damn
The disaster has to happen. I don't think it makes sense to hire a new coach and then go into rebuild mode. Going into rebuild mode with Allen for a couple of years makes a lot more sense because your next hire would actually have a chance.

I dont think they are getting rid of a bunch of them, just the older ones. Guys like lattimore and thomas namely that probably arent going to hurt us that much next year without them

Latts restructure put in an option bonus which opens a trade window before the option bonus becomes guaranteed for current team at that date.

Problem is how much input do you give Allen in the rebuild? I’d argue if you have a plan with a new guy to rebuild he obviously has assurances of his security for a few years while you undergo the rebuild.
If Dennis is part of the rebuild he’s still going to want input in his “vision.” If you’re not giving him that then what’s the point of having him around

So next year Loomis gets fired too!
Proceed!!

I don’t get it… DA is on the hot seat before the season even starts and he’s going to burn it down and start over now?! This is a move a guy with three years of runway in front of him does. If this happens, then you’ll know DA has been told he has more then one season to fix things.

Ireland's daughter graduates this year from HS and his wife is ready to get out of Louisiana like yesterday
The timing here is perfect

I do agree it's time to blow it all up roster wise and get the cap back into better financial shape
That will be the only way you can get back into contention
If you decide to go that way, I don't really think it matters who the coach is at that point

Getting rid of salary like we all want? Tanking or rebuilding like everybody wants?
Some of yall make up your mind

It’s not that simple though… it’s fair to ask why a coach whom everyone thinks is going to get fired if he doesn’t win next season would blow the team up and start a rebuild. If the answer is, he’s been told he has more than one year to implement his vision, you’re not going to find a lot of fans who are excited about that.

And letting a few players go isn't exactly blowing it up. Thomas hasn't played well in years. Lattimore is great, but hurt a lot. I don't know who (if any) others there will be. I think cashing Lattimore and Ak in is a smart move. If we restructure them now, they'll be effective for a year or so, but decline is coming.

We're all spittin in the wind till the FO decides on the coaches for next year. I'm sure someone around here remembers when we usually do that in the off season.

Fair… but the quote in the OP is “a lot of players”… that means more than 2, to me.

What would Jim Finks do?
Probably let his HC try to navigate the waters and bring the ship out of the storm. But if he failed he'd likely whack the whole staff.

Yeah Finks was old school. He might of had 1 coach and 3 players left but they would toe the line
Posted on 1/10/24 at 8:52 am to Laaz2750
Fair enough... guess the question becomes what does underhill consider "a lot"
