Apparently lots of women either don’t understand biological clocks, or are just liars.
The UVA woman is 39 - she has years to have children. What is your point?

The point is you're stupid.

Down syndrome risk increases with the mother's age:
1 in 1250 for a 25 year old mother
1 in 1000 at age 31
1 in 400 at age 35
1 in 100 at age 40

The man she’s looking for isn’t going to marry a 39 year old woman. It’s incredibly unlikely that she will ever get married, and the odds of her having children are almost zero.

It’s not her fault, she grew up in a damaged culture, and did what she was told. The whole thing is really sad.

I believe the point is a geriatric pregnancy.

These women and their chances to get pregnant and have a family and chose their careers instead. They don't deserve the happiness thar comes with being a mother. And frankly they don't deserve it.

The normal age for menopause can be as early as 40 years old. That isn’t early either. That is considered normal.

Average is ~50.

Fertility begins to rapidly decline after 35.

Advanced maternal age also greatly increases the risk to both the fetus and the mother. Down syndrome is always discussed, but it increases the risk of multiple different chromosomal abnormalities.

Increased risk of miscarriage and stillbirth.

Increased risk of preterm delivery.

That doesn’t mean it is impossible to have a child at that age, just that it is harder to conceive and the complications are more numerous and more common.

Others have answered your question, but to add: She's single. She is still looking for a man. She's not having a child at 39. Even if she meets her mate in the next 6 months, gets married six months later, then starts trying to have a child, she could easily be in her early-to-mid 40s before she ever gets pregnant - if she can even get pregnant.

I think the guy's point is that these women probably don't want children, but they are saying that to attract a man that's probably looking for a younger woman that can have children.

Lots of women hitting 40 still playing hard to get.

You are running out of time at this age. A woman’s egg amount just goes down to zero as she ages.

It’s easier to get pregnant at 18 than 40.

“Many women are really surprised to learn how much fertility declines with age,” Jain says. As women get older, he adds, “fertility goes down, miscarriage rates go up, and birth defects go up. It’s a more painful journey the older a woman gets.”

Millions of women out there don’t know this.

Women can have babies well into their 40's, most of the research claiming the popular 35 year biological clock has been proven just flat out wrong. The entire decade of most woman's 40's is fair game, it obviously gets harder in the later 40's but saying a 39 year old woman is too old is just silly.
