CJ is 20th in 3PA per game. Next up is Trey at 40th (should be taking at least 8 per game). Hawkins at 58th (that number is steadily decreasing). Three guys in the top 60, not too terribly bad I guess. Our next guy... BI at 138th in 3PA per game.

We have always been near the bottom under Green. That probably won't change. They may go stretches where they look like they turned the corner but it's habitual at this point.

To me this is what takes us to the next level. When herb is making 3’s we are pretty much unguardable

I think it could be argued it is league best when you consider percentage and rate. I think he is like 3rd in the league in made 3 pt/game.

Please Ingram dedicate yourself to improving your 3 game. Just regress back to 2019-2021 Ingram where you shot .391 and .381 on 6.2 and 6.1 shots per game, respectively.

You are a much better all around player today than you were then, but your ceiling is lower than an elite player taking 3.8 3’s a game.

Ingram shoring better than .380 from 3 on +6 shots a game would make us a very dangerous team, and make Ingram a borderline all nba player.

Don't know if this is available, but I wonder how Trey ranks in 3PA per minute played.

It most certainly is having a big effect.

This isn't AAU or the G-League, and that mindset doesn't need to apply.

Yes we should be taking a bit more, but you don't start forcing 3's just to do it.
Can it not be that we are still taking about the same amount of 3's, but we are smarter about the 3's we are taking, hence we are making a lot more of them?

We have a 61.4% TS% in the last 14 games. that would be the best in the league overall, and is 6th best in that time frame.
We have the 6th best ORtg in the last 14 games at 121.1. Before this current 14 game streak, our offensive rating was 113 (18th), and our TS% was 57.2% (20th).

Our roster isn't conducive to taking 40 3's a game. JV doesn't shoot them, nor does Larry, nor does Zion, and Herb/Dyson should be taking minimal 3's. That's 5 guys that play more than half of the total minutes combined.

Last 14 games TS% numbers for those guys:
Dyson 64.4%
Herb 51.8% (down considerably from his 59.8% for the season)
JV 65%
Zion 63.7%
Larry 65.9%

The guys that need to shoot 3's need to continue to shoot them. We don't need more threes from guys that don't need to be taking them.
BI would be the only candidate to take more. His TS% in the last 14 games is 63.5%, compared to 58.9% overall for the season. He's shooting 46.7% from 3 the last 14 games as well, taking 3.2 a game. His 20 games before this streak he was at 29.4% from 3 on 4.3 attempts, and had a TS% of 56.3%

SO the guy we want taking more, started taking less, and his offense and our entire offense got better.

need more attempts. wish we would run more plays for our shooters but I guess that's the issue when your two highest usage players don't shoot a lot or at all.

Just scanning over it, of the 39 guys that average more 3PA than Trey, only two play less minutes. Malik Monk and Buddy. Only three out of the top 54 in attempts play less. So he shoots it at a high rate for sure.

I think it absolutely is, reason being...

CJ is 7th in the NBA in 3pt% at 45.5%. The 6 guys ahead of him have attempts per game of:

5.6
4.4
6.1
4.4
5.2
4.5

The leader is Grayson Allen at 47.4% on 5.6 attempts per game.

But the argument for CJ is that I think any of the dudes ahead of him would benefit or be even better if they were shooting a slightly lower rate of 45.5% on 2-4 more attempts per game.

45.% on 7.9 attempts is better than the slighlty lower % on lesser attempts.

Which is why we're at a point in the season where Trey needs to be inserted into the starting lineup ASAP.
