Technically, you’re right. They didn’t kill her.
Knowing how intoxicated she was, after raping her, they dropped her off in the middle of nowhere, in the freezing rain and just let her take her chances.
So legally, no…they didn’t kill her.
Morally speaking? All 4 need to be fricking horsewhipped until they bleed out. Preferably in the freezing rain.

if these guys hadn’t offered her a ride and transported her to the place of her death, she wouldn’t have died.
I thought they dropped her off where she asked them to drop her off. Assuming that's true, anyone who gave her a ride home would have dropped her off in the same spot in the neighborhood.
The rape stuff, if the prosecution can prove it, is clearly a different discussion. I don't think anyone is hypothesizing a replacement ride also raping her for the purposes of this digression in the conversation, which is focused on the death aspect.

Morally they are absolutely bankrupt human beings. And they should spend considerable time in jail for what they did

Maybe a lawyer can chime in but are there any legal precedents for picking her up and dropping her off how and where they did constituting reckless endangerment? Any similar cases?

Is that on video, or is that taking the word of the defendants?
I don't think you can assume she ends up there no matter what, but we do know she ended up there after getting in the car with the defendants.

Are they?????
I don’t know, but if the girl was intoxicated and in no condition to care for herself after being violated, and she screams to be let out of the car; are the rapists responsible for what happened?

Are there laws about deaths happening in the course of committing a felony?
Maybe it varies by state, but I thought if someone dies during the commission of a felony, even if accidental, that those involved could be charged with murder.

What is reckless endangerment? I don't think that crime exists in LA (for non-military personnel)

I thought they dropped her off where she "thought" she lived (or her friend or something?)? And at some point she wanted to be let out of the car, no?
Admittedly, I haven't read anything about this case in a long time so my memory is a little hazy on the details.
I'm not saying these dudes aren't culpable for something, but stop acting like "they killed her," because they didn't.

The rumors are this is on video, with a long time of her giving them bad directions and all of the co-defendants getting annoyed. Again, rumors, but the DA is trying for 1st degree rape (when 3rd degree rape is more appropriate) so there must be a major factual issue for the DA to try for some death-related charge.

Has anyone other than emotional message board/social media posters framed this incident in this manner?

Don’t worry, they’re not gonna be prosecuted for that.
On that score, it’s between them and their Maker.

The DA (and society) is lucky as hell the boys talked. Because without the actual interviews they wouldn’t have anything at all.

The problem is that the felonies were "over" and too much attenuation occurred.

Yes. That isn't official (yet), but is the most accepted version of the facts.

You graduated in 2020 and live in the Woodlands? Dork

Yeah it's called felony murder. The nexus between the underlying felony and her death may be an issue. If she'd died in the car from being raped, it would've certainly applied.

Yeah there was a lot of time and intervening factors and it would be a major stretch.

besides her toxicology reports and the fact that they gang raped her on video?
