He would have...at the ER. Urgent Cares don't owe you a thing.

This is on you.
If it’s that serious you gotta go to ER first.
Some idiot showed up at walk in clinic last week with a severed finger and held up 10 people with flu, cough, etc.

Why would you get a refill at a clinic?

Because the clinic has a pharmacy and was the closest option open on a Sunday.

So you never saw a doctor or had any type of medical attention, yet the receptionist demanded an upfront payment of more than "several hundred dollars"? If you hadn't been seen, how would she know how much you needed to pay

This story is either complete bullshite or you are leaving out many important details

The EMT’s provided a breathing treatment enroute to the ER after the wreck. ER doctor wrote a script w/ refill when I was discharged.

People like OP are one of the big reasons people are getting out of the medical profession

You should be thankful you got in that wreck, it allowed for the EMTs to come to you and bring you to the doctor.

If he was in an emergency situation, maybe. A guy that takes his time to try and negotiate prices with a doctor is not in an emergency situation.

There is an EMTALA notice posted on the wall at the entrance of the facility.

Thank you.
I understand that people have a hard time triaging themselves. But some of it is just common sense.
You are so SOB you think it's affecting your ability to think clearly? Get your arse to the ER.
Legit chest pain? Severe abdominal pain? L or R sided acute onset weakness?
All ER.
My first week working a walk in clinic, I saw an acute CVA several hours out, a cardiac event, and a guy on Coumadin that fell off of a ladder and was bleeding from his ear.
Urgent care is when you need to be seen sooner than a doctor's office appointment, but it's not life-threatening.

So you got behind the wheel impaired and you want to blame someone else?

All I wanted was to be able to breathe. If you have never experienced severe asthma, perhaps do this.

Run about a quarter mile, stop and you must breathe through a plastic straw for as long as you can.

I had money and the means to pay the whole bill. I just didn’t have the means with me at that moment aside from a few hundred bucks cash. All I wanted was some relief from the asthma at that moment.

An urgent care does not provide emergency medicine and it does not fall under Emtala. They told you to go to ER. Shortness of breath is not an urgent care visit. If they would have checked you in and you saw a doc they would charge you the cash then tell you, hey we want you to go to ER. We will call you an ambulance. Then you have be on the hook for the urgent care bill also.

Not only that, he wanted a nurse that saw him standing there to recognize the need to call 911, even though he had refused to do so earlier for himself. It's beyond the pale.

What was the total and what were the charges for? How did they know either of these things if you never got past the front desk?
