What you mean you roast your own beans
Posted on 1/8/24 at 5:11 pm to BigPerm30
You can buy green (raw) beans in roast them. Highly recommend doing it outdoors due to the smell, especially when going dark roast.

What we doing, just throwing them on the green egg? We sous vide them first? What kind of equipment we need for this shite? Also, you go through all that trouble and then use a super automatic Phillips machine? You should get your coffee card taken away.

Take it away, IDGAF
The Bullseye Recteq at 500 degrees. High temps does not emit any smoke so it’s mostly just pure heat. Fairly effortless.
I don’t have any need to nerd my coffee every morning.
Two double expresses.

I’m busting nuts. So you just crank up the heat on a pellet smoker and put them in a basket?

Oh I know, you always do mfer.
Yep, Bullseye, my smaller grill, has the same shape as the 22 inch Weber
I use aluminum trays, disposible but use them several times. You need to keep the layer thin doing this method. Maybe 1 1/2 inches.

Whose got good ones locally?
If you’re in the Nola metro area, I think Alinea has some good stuff right now. I got an Americano at Bearcat Baked that was amazing. Want to grab some beans from them as well. Also, Congregation Coffee just opened back up and does a subscription. Hey Cafe is popular too.
For my morning drip I use Ethiopian Sidamo Guji from Fresh Roasted Coffee. It’s like $27 for 2lbs shipped and they roast to order.

I get my beans from a dude who roasts in a converted garage in Crowley. He sells at the Lafayette Farmer's Market on Saturdays, but mostly I just drive out and buy them out of the garage. Father's Coffee. His beans are top quality.

Those are actually some of the best store-bought beans I've found. They are roasted in Austin and they stamp the roasting date on the bag.

I just ordered the DF64 Gen 2 and am soooo close to pulling the trigger on a Breville Dual Boiler. Like the idea of having a dual so I can make back to back drinks for family and friends.
But I guess I should research this Legato. So it’s a single boiler but has a separate heating mechanism for the steamer?

There isn’t another dual boiler that hits Brevelle’s price point.
Also check out the Profitec Pro 300. That’s also a small dual boiler but a cut above in build quality. It may sound like I should be getting a kickback from the Germans at Profitec, but I’m just very familiar with their machines. I was in Portland a few months ago and spent an afternoon at Clive Coffee trying machines. Those Profitec machines were all impressive. That’s why I bought one.

Dual boiler is hard to beat if you’re willing to spend the money.
Correct, the Legato uses a single boiler for espresso and a thermoblock for the steam. So steaming is near instant and doesn’t rely on the boiler. Drawback is the steam isn’t as strong as something like a dual boiler. There are other machines that use a similar setup and might be more premium but can’t remember which ones. There is also going to be a more premium version of the Legato available later in the year. The Breville Bambino Plus uses similar tech with a thermocoil, but doesn’t have a PID.

We've got this one, my Dad found it at Bargain Hunt for $65 and gifted it to us, we have been using it for a solid year and a half. I've had a double everyday since we got it. It's crazy how much better espresso is, I never feel jittery but feel way more awake than I do with plain coffee. Illy

I've researched this in the past and will eventually want to start roasting my beans. I think they have some baskets i can put on the joetisserie and use on my kamado joe. There's a facebook group called "Kamado coffee roasters" with a bunch of information.
