I thought the sweet spot was 9 bars. The time was right and the output was spot on. I can live with it. I may tinker a little bit with flow rate knob.

I have a Bosch Benvenuto that I purchased in 2004. Fully automatic and still putting out great espresso shots. I have four shots every morning. It is the best appliance I've ever purchased. I believe it was $1.4k when I purchased it.
IDK what the newest Bosch machines are, but given their reputation for quality I'd at least take a look. I sent mine back to Bosch (in New Jersey) for service twice over the 20 years I've owned it, and they never charged me to repair even though it was out of warranty coverage.

Sounds like it has sort of a profile pre-programmed where it ramps up and then ramps down. I do that sometimes with my flow control lever. If it tastes good, then it can’t be wrong.
I’m interested in your DF64 grinder. Did that come in as well? That thing has potential.

It is, but until they start selling the OPV kit for the Legato we are stuck with 15.
Edit: let me know what grind setting you’re using on the DF64 for that shot. Give me a head start on dialing

15 is the sweet spot for the beans I’m using. They are medium roast. I started at 7 and it took too long and pressure was way high. The third shot I settled in on 15 and it is close.

I saw yesterday that apparently MiiCoffee (same machine/different brand) is saying they’re working on a circuit board swap that would actually allow for true pre-infusion.
A reviewer recently dropped a video on YouTube that showed how the current form of “pre-infusion” just drops water for a second or two then pauses for the amount of time you set. But the new update will actually run water for the time the pre-infusion is set for.
If there was an OPV fix now I think I’d go ahead and jump on this rather than the Breville Dual Boiler. Maybe I’ll wait a while longer and just see how it plays out.
My DF64 Gen 2 arrived yesterday, but I still can’t decide on an espresso machine. Maybe I’ll try some grinds for my aeropress.
Anyone in the Baton Rouge area finding fresh roasted beans locally?

I can imagine they wouldn’t come out with an OPV fix. Also, that little flow adjustment someone will figure out how to mod as well.

Check out the Turin Capriccio. Though I think dual boiler is worth it if you’re willing to spend extra.

Ah they may not have put it on the website yet. It’s the dual boiler I was talking about earlier. Google the Gemilai 3200D, basically the same machine. Turin/Espresso Outlet may add some upgrades to it for their resale.

I’m looking hard at the Gen 2. I have a baraza encore esp and it’s started to annoy me. It is the bottom of the market.
As for beans, I get mine from a dude who sets up shop at the Lafayette farmers market on Saturday mornings. Father’s Coffee. Dude has an espresso blend that is fantastic. I’m getting a pound in the morning as we go through a pound a week. If the rain doesn’t wash it all out.

I pulled two shots yesterday with my daily drip Ethiopian light roast.
First was with the stock portafilter/basket, no puck screen. Did 18/36 in around 45 seconds. Came out sour but good enough for a latte for the wife.
Second was with a bottomless portafilter with a puck screen. Did 18/36 in around 50 seconds. Came out less sour.
Definitely need some dialing in. It’s weird though because from what I read, light roasts should be ground finer and extracted with a quicker higher temp pull. Not sure how I could grind finer and get a faster pull.

Flow rate. I need to get this dialed in. Pulled a shot this morning at 16 on the grinder. 20/40 but it took 27 seconds but hit 9 bar the entire shot. Right size grind but flow is a little heavy

Thinking back, it took me at least a week to realize that running water through the group head for 2 or 3 seconds before attaching the portafilter and starting the shot makes a huge difference. Much less sour. There’s cool water in the grouphead just like the steam wand that has to be purged

I do this. It also flushes some of the old grinds off. I run hot water through the portafilter before I add the grind to warm it up as well.
