How often do you cut some braid off your reel? When do you respool the entire reel? I've heard of people cutting off 25 yds or so every fishing trip. Seems extreme to me.

Had a spool on my crankbait rod that lasted over 6 years of heavy use. The only thing I did was rotate the line once by unspooling the line, then respooling it.

Never heard of that. Thats ridiculous.

I only cut some off when I see its about to break or it has a knot that smacks the eyes when casting.

cutting 25 yards off a trip is silly. When I retie my rigs, regardless of the line type, I typically cut about 6"off if it is visibly damaged or not. Baits that move around can possible weaken line near the tie but that is about it

Dont waste your expensive line

I only re-spool if the line is short on the spool or if I get wind knots in it

Most braid is pretty solid and will last year a long time

this is only done with mono or fluorocarbon lines, not braided line.

braided line should only be cut if it gets frayed

Absolutely no reason to do this. In my opinion the best benefit of braided line is that it holds no memory (mono will coil) and has great longevity

I'll only respool if I get a terrible arse knot and there isn't enough line left on my spool after cutting the knot out.

its best when doing this to just reel it onto an empty reel from you other reel so that the new end and old end get reversed and its like brand new line again

I only respool when I've either had some really bad wind knot or rats nest and I had to cut line out, or when I realized how much better have a really light backer line was.

These days if I had to cut a lot out I just join the existing line with new line using a double uni and go from there.

I've got power pro on one of my spools that's been on there for about 15 yrs. Other than losing it's color, it's perfectly fine.

I've got reels spooled with braid over 20 years ago. I never replace braid unless it has an issue breaking when used, but haven't had any of that in years either.
