Players need to have some skin in the game or they will continue to opt out making for pitiful games like UGA vs FSU. Coaches have incentives and NFL player contracts have incentives, why shouldn’t NIL have them?

Every program would have to abide by it or the programs that wouldn't enforce would easily out recruit the ones that would enforce it.

Blame the sports culture that deems anything short of the championship as failure.

Coaches have incentives

You mean the coaches that change jobs and don’t coach the team in the bowl?

NFL player contracts have incentives,

not for exhibition games and teams routinely sit players the last game if their playoff position is locked up or they are eliminated from the playoffs

Until pay for play is acknowledged, it can’t be enforced.

NIL is generally the wild west but there are just a couple of actual rules. One of those is that NIL contracts cannot be tied to athletic performance. Things like yards, touchdowns, or game participation.

If someone is projected in first couple rounds of NFL draft a $10-20k check isn’t gonna get them to play in a bowl game I’m sorry to tell you.

As I understand it, schools still can’t officially pay players nor can anyone require the money to be tied to playing for a particular school.

That said, I would think all these rich people who have been throwing their money at this would figure something out even if it’s under the table. After all, they’ve been paying players to play at a their schools for decades before NIL came along and getting away with it.

Let's force players to play in a meaningless exhibition game....

Because you know we care about the players

The 12 team CFP will fix next year. At least for the games that actually matter.

Should take all the kids not in the playoffs and have two coaching staffs build teams with a limited budget. Pay the kids for one game, and the practices leading up, and have sponsors for the All-Star bowl…their teams are playing in bowls, but they’d opt out to play in this high profile game.

I wicked smaht.

Two different animals. You think a school continues to pay a coach once they’ve left for another school? Coaching is someone’s lively hood and how they earn a living.

These turds now getting paid to play football WHILE ON A FREE RIDE/athletic scholarship are already getting paid in ways that most people never get an opportunity to experience other than actually WORKING for a living! them and the nil!

Yeah man, frick all those regular kids on the teams that get some playing time and are excited for a chance to go on a bowl game trip. If people on the internets favorite players sit out then nobody should be able to participate!!!!!

Eliminate schools from bowls if NiL deals don’t enforce bowl participation.

NiL = let’s face it, there is no name, image likeness, the money is a signing bonus.
The league is no longer about student athletes, it’s pro sports.

Dear God.

There is not some Emperor of College Football explicitly looking out for its overall best interest. There are a bunch of different entities with their own--mainly financial--interest at heart. And those interests often contradict.

Stupid Comment

Play or Not Play in the Bowl Game... Bowl Games are a Prize for the vast majority of the players. It's Not going to Stop for a hand full of players per team.

Believe it or Not, They do have Players that want to Play at 100% in the Game. (90% of them)

So that below 10% can transfer or go straight from there to the NFL.. Forget that scholarship, Forget your Teammates, just go get that Not For Long (NFL)
