People wanting to change the structure of a VERY GOOD offensive line because Heard was a 5 star.

I think there is an inclination to put the best 5 out there, but OL is definitely a unit that benefits from experience together.

Well if there’s one position you can afford to lose someone on this roster it’s O-line.

Heard barely played and everyone is coming back. Hard to blame the kid.

He played in every game as a fricking freshman, but you are also a well-known troll and fricking moron.

Also, it's not 5 OL. It's 5 different positions. They all take similar, but different skill sets.

And the idea that a true freshman tackle that played in every single game is concerned about playing time would have been been unthinkable just 1-2 years go.

Easy fix to this is start Heard at RT. Jones to RG which is where he’ll likely play in NFL. Problem solved and it gets your best 5 on the field.

Yet Brad Davis, who I think we all respect at this point, tried that briefly this season and went away from it because it didn’t work that well. If he thinks Jones needs to stay at RT, I trust his opinion over yours or anyone else’s on this board.

it rare that you have 4 OL play 3 years in a row together and only center come open.

Center being a slightly more specialized position.

All of you folks who think open transfer and unlimited NIL is a really cool idea, this is what you’re gonna see more and more of. When the “bag” becomes more important than the team, you can kiss college football as we knew it goodbye. It’s over. You reap what you sow.

Well if it is a personal issue hope he resolved it. If he is not happy he needs to move on and it's next MAN up. This is going to happen with no rules around NIL and basically free agency every year.

Are you implying that the finalist for the joe Moore award for best line wasn’t playing the best five? He clearly wasn’t one of the best five or I trust that Brad Davis would’ve played him.

Wonder if this is why they pushed for Echols at the last minute?

They went after Echols because he is a good lineman.

Downvote all you want.. I guarantee you he was offered to play guard, he probably declined. This is the new era of the transfer portal. 5 stars will leave if they don’t play instantly.

Then he’s short-sighted, ill informed, and getting bad advice. There’s highly paid offensive linemen all over the NFL that played multiple positions in college and the pros.

A bunch of them played for Brian Kelly at Notre Dame. I trust his evaluation and process.

Zack Martin redshirted, then started at LT. He was a multi year starter at LT in college, now he’s one of the highest paid Guards in the NFL.

Ronnie Staley started as a RT early in college, then replaced Martin at LT. He’s one of the highest paid Tackles, and was the highest when he originally signed his extension.

Mike McGlinchey redshirted, then started out as a RT before moving to LT.

Quenton Nelson was a highly rated OT recruit. Redshirted, then moved to Guard. He is also one of the highest paid offensive linemen in the NFL.

All of the above were recruited as an OT. Only Staley saw the field as a true freshman, and he only saw limited action. All were high first round picks. All have signed huge contract extensions.

Your line of thinking requires patience, forethought and delayed gratification.

All are in short supply.

It would not shock me to see Heard in the portal, he was adamant about wanting to be a left tackle in college

My guess is this is what it is. And LSU might try to give him some NIL money to stay, and if they are successful, another excuse will be made up for his absence. If not, I can definitely see half the teams in the country guaranteeing him a left tackle spot to transfer immediately.
