What would happen to Louisiana if it lacked the immense natural resources today?

If Louisiana had no natural resource assets (like no large river for ports or marsh/Gulf full of resources for major ports or seafood, no oil or nat gas) and assets tied to the natural resources (like major refineries due to proximity of nat resources)... basically if Louisiana had the natural assets/advantage of a South Dakota or Nebraska but the same people/population, how much would the GDP shrink?
This state already struggles immensely but can't imagine how bad it'd be if it had the assets of a Nebraska, but the same people. Maybe casinos would be only non natural resource that'd provide state taxes. Maybe corn. I hear sugar cane (which is a natural resource 95% of states don't have) is more profitable than corn or soybean.
This bare state itself is actually prime location for thriving industry if it had a successful population.

We have to split that money with other states. Many lawmakers have wanted to changed that but none have gotten it done. We would be like a one of the rich oil countries if not.

Disappear and nobody would care? Let’s be objective here.

Might be better off. No resource curse.

Your answer lies east of the Mississippi River and west of the Alabama State Line.

I don’t know. Maybe it would be like Nebraska or South Dakota?

It would be better because there wouldn’t have been cotton grown here back in the day

I wish people would stop using terms like “quality of life” as if they weren’t completely made up, subjective terms. I mean yeah you can grade it and make a list, but does it actually matter?

We’d be Arkansas without Walmart

There's the "Resource Curse" theory that states that being reliant on one industry actually is a bad thing. That's why West Virginia has always been so broke down and why all the squirrels and rats can't live to old age in Venezuela.

Crawfish prices would be outrageous.

Hell, do this for any state and they would be destitute.

What are you suggesting that “one industry” is?

“ If Louisiana had no natural resource assets”
Less corruption money would’ve been schemed over to politicians.

Feeding the people on rigs creates so many jobs in various sectors.
